Best Folding Knife for Deployment & EDC?

I have a CS RECON 1.Respecting your price range,it's a good choice.I saw a SEAL use it in <Who Is Deadliest Warrior>

As an active duty member who has deployed, but not been in combat (I work in comm), you will be issued a multi-tool, which will be your go to item for many things. Your knife will be used for EDC kind of tasks, hardcore tactical stuff is highly unlikely, and you will be issued proper tools for that if its part of your job out there anyway (maybe invest in a widgy bar just in case). For a pure knife, I would go with ease of use, and easy pocketability.

A Mini-griptilian can be had for right at $60 on a certain coupon oriented knife site, or even a mini-presidio ultra, which has a slightly bigger handle. Axis lock works well with sand and dust, and is IMO the easiest to deploy and put away kind of lock. They Spyderco slipits are pretty good for speed, and they are pretty cheap, the FRN models are all under $40. They don't lock, but barring trying to pry like crazy or something, you don't really need a lock for what you will be doing there (and if you do, you can just use your multitool anyway).

Fairtex, that is funny that you said that. The first time I was every introduced to the Recon 1 was on Deadliest Warrior!

Thank you everyone for the posts. I ended up buying a Ontario Rat 1, but down the road I will most likely buy either a Recon 1, ZT, or a Spyderco Manix or Military. Additionally, I meant to state this earlier but I currently am not in the military. I wanted to get a knife for my brother who just deployed. Nevertheless, I am also planning on enlisting as soon as I get my wrists better. Tendonitis SUCKS!

I would try to avoid assisted opening in that price range for military use. Spyderco endura 4 ffg is really light with a good balance of cutting capabilities and comfort of carry.

I am looking to take one of the Cold Steel Voyagers(XL for me). Mostly looked at the price range and the ability to lose and not be too heart broken. Recons are another good series to take. I would also avoid spring assisted, just makes more to go wrong and clean.

I'll tell you what...Let's make a bet. I'll send you a nice Buck 373; a three blade slipjoint. You take it with you and carry it. If you don't use it more than any other "tactical" knife or multi-tool you win and you can keep the knife. Personally, I think you'll loose; at which point you send me that $60 that seems to be burning a hole in your pocket. All you have to do is PM me your address.

I've done multiple deployments, and I find a good, small to medium sized, slipjoint gets more done than anything else I've carried or seen. Oh yeah, don't waste money buying a multi-tool, you'll be issued one (or more). You'll use the pliers, maybe the driver, the rest is wasted weight.
