What are you guys's favorite types of locks (and who does the best?), from the standard liner lock, to like a benchmade axis or spyderco compression lock.

Current favorites are Spyderco lockback, compression, and ball lock. I also like flipper liner and frame locks with a good finger choile like the kershaw/zt. Another good one is Hawk lock like the one on the Kershaw RAM. And finally a good balisong.

Well, to be honest, as long as it's well made I don't really prefer one lock type over the others. The linerlock is probaly my least favourite lock, I had bad luck with a couple of Buck knives with really bad linerlocks, but I still own and use a ton of linerlock knives.

I like compression lock mostly because it is fun to flip and that it is very smooth to open and close. Second, I like liner/frame locks. Dependable design and something that I am quite use to. I am still playing around with different locking mechanisms and still trying to find which fits best for me.

By far most of my knives are linerlock. I do have a couple of framelocks, a couple of axis locks and a compression lock. My favorite is the axis lock but when I'm considering purchase of a new knife as long as it is one of the 4 listed above I don't really put much preference on one lock type vs. another.

Of the last 3 knives I bought- 1 linerlock, 1 frame lock and 1 axis lock.

i have a lot of frame lock knifes, but my favorite is my axis lock. it just never....ever fails on me, but i'm not picky on what i get when i buy a knife.

I like well made Ti framelocks like the ones made by Rick Hinderer & Chris Reeve. They are simple, very little moving parts, easily cleaned & strong enough for anything I would put a folder through.

why bumper a 1.5 yr old thread? There is a 'best knife lock' thread every other week here...

My favorites

Liner
Compression
Frame
Back
Slip
And not even considered is axis. No lock over axis

Have you seen the threads in this subforum? A better question is why NOT bump a 1 1/2 year old thread?

Axis all the way baby! Yeah!

I like back locks and its brothers/cousins

It may be because they are most familiar

My favorite is the Axis lock, also love the bolt lock on my sage 3, next favorite would be Spyderco's CBBL followed by the R.I.L. & liner locks. I don't much care for back locks and even tho I don't mind liner locks I try to avoid them unless the rest of the package makes that specific knife worth it, one of my most loved knives is a liner lock (the Sage 1) but the lock isn't one of the reasons I like it, in fact the new carbon fiber Sage 3 may make my S1 obsolete [to me] soon. Also don't much care for the compression lock, it's just so different, very few people new to it don't require a demo of the best way to operate it/close the knife.

My big thing is I like ambidextrous gear, all my guns have ambi safety's, I prefer my knives have ambi locks too, that's why I like axis (and similar operating) locks the best.

Button lock on smaller gentleman folders & flippers. Frame locks for most everything else. Liner locks would round up my top three.
