Ok, I'm sure that there have been many post like this before, but...
I absolutely love knives. I'm only a student however (about 18) and am on a student's budget. What would you suggest under 100, preferably around 50 even. Looking for a folding knife, 3-6 inch blade. I was looking at the ti-lite imitation knife, but I'm not sure if its any good. This is a general purpose knife, but I also like the idea of it doubling as a semi-decent fighting blade. but I'm just a romantic that way... Let the recommendations begin!!

spyderco endura 4 if you can afford it, get the G10 model, you wont regret it

Spyderco Endura, Caly3, and Manix are worth considering, depending on what type of lock you like. Kershaw G-10 Tyrade is another good knife to consider. Assisted Opening, liner lock (nearly as stout as a frame lock), and 3.75" composite CPM D2/154 blade. Available in Tan, Black or Orange G-10 handles.

Another very popular knife in your price range is the Benchmade Griptilian. Orange, black, tan and OD green handles are available for this one.

Some people like the ti-lite, I personally hated mine. It's a decent knife, but definitely not to be considered if it'll be your only knife and you're on a tight budget. I think of it as a novelty item.

+1 on Benchmade Griptilian or Spyderdo Endura4. You just can't go wrong with these two flagship models from the top production companies.

My personal favorite right now is the Kershaw Needs Work with G-10 handles. More of a work knife than an SD knife with its Wharncliffe blade. But great blade steel and a very snappy AO.

The Spyderco Native is another option. There are even some great deals on the Carbon Fiber version that put it in your price range.

I love my BM griptillian. I found it for $70 out the door online. Sounds like it's in your price range.

I'll say Spyderco also, but get a Delica (3" blade). Great knife, especially in VG10. Anyway, Spyderco gives you the best cutting tool value for your money, bar none. Just pick your model.

Ok. so far, here's the (not so) short list. so far I've gotten a lot of suggestions, but its hard to compare different blades. can anybody suggest why any blade on this list is better than the others? (the h&k is on there even tho its probably too expensive. just couldnt stand the thought of taking it off yet..)
tanto Griptilian
Spyderco Native4 carbon fibre
H&K 14205
BM griptilian
spyderco endura 4
Spyderco Manix 2
Kershaw NRG2
Delica 4

Your best bet would be to find a store where you can handle at least some of these knives. Otherwise, the traditional BladeForums answer would be to buy them all. ;)

BTW: Welcome aboard.

Considering your budget I'd recommend either the Spyderco Delica or Endura. The Delica is a little smaller and is my preference for edc. If you like a longer blade go with the Endura. But take into consideration the state and local laws where you live. Many places have a 3" limit on carrying pocket knives and you don't want to get a great knife you can't legally carry.

The smaller blade of the Delica will serve just fine in a SD capacity if necessary. In such a situation all you'd need is a quick stab or slash and then run. If you stick around for a fight then it's not SD but assault.

that is a good answer (post 17). I'd love to. I have a bunch of random knives, and 11 throwing knives. I' looking for one really good (for the price) knife. I don't know any stores in my area that sell wide varieties.

EDIT:
unless there are other suggestions, the list is narrowed down to:

H&K 14205 (almost for sure not :( )
spyderco endura 4
Kershaw NRG2
Delica 4

A folding knife is a poor choice for a fighting implement. I prefer something louder that permits more separation distance.

Now, for a good $50+ pocketable folding knife, consider the following:

Buck 110 (Everyone needs one!) - ~$30 at Wally World

Buck 347 Vantage Pro S30V - ~ $46 at Bass Pro, etc

Kershaw JYDII CB (D2) - ~ $70 mail order

All are US made - and very useful/sturdy designs. Keepers all!
