  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Best Food or Supplement to Add to Kit? Greatest Value?

That's awesome. It's actually pretty tough to eat only 20gm of carbs a day--carbs are everywhere. But you need to eat...well....none.

Bet you've lost some weight since you started that.

Yes Sir, 33 Lbs. so far.

When I go in the bush , I bring tea, pemmican, bacon , eggs if I can , hard sausage, veggies, protein bars /shakes , beef jerky and all the fish I'm allowed to keep. Bring along a can of seasoning salt, and I'm good to go.

I Cleaned our Wal-Mart out a few months ago; bought 15 cans :D

My suggestion is gorp- you can tune it to suit and it keeps forever. My mix used to be: peanuts, almonds, walnuts, M&Ms, sunflower seeds, dehydrated strawberries and cherries. I've dropped the M&Ms out and added jerky bites of landjagers these days.

Well, you all may have answered my question, but I still wonder what my brain needs.

I can't carry enough 'food' to survive, or my kit would be of a size that was un-manageable.

But, if I was only trying to give my 'survival' an edge by 'feeding' it the right stuff.....

Then, I think we should be looking at brain chemistry.

I have had plenty of days where my body was sluggish and un-responsive, quivery, punchy, untrustworthy. But, if my mind was clear, I made it through.

On the other hand, I have had days where the body was willing and ready, but my mind was confused and thready, jumpy and un-responsive. Bad days.

Now, my 'mind' is not my brain. But, if I give my brain what it needs, I am hedging my bet that my 'mind' will have what it needs, if it shows up to play.

So, what does my brain need? Glucose? Omega Fatty Acids?

Marion

Glucose for your brain. Take some packs of honey to suck on once in awhile. They also used to pour honey in wounds and surgical cuts to keep infection down. Ever notice no mold grows on honey. Hadn't thought of this for awhile. Years ago I was interested in "folk medicine" for quite awhile. Have it rolling around in my head. Another interesting topic you don't hear discussed much. Garlic is another to keep the body up.
