There it is. What's your opinion of the best frame lock for under $70 US? Uses will be primarily EDC. I'm partial to the Spyderco Cricket and Boker Trance.
This will be for a Christmas present, so please share your thoughts.

Kershaw Leek is classy with nice lines, but the AO isn't ideal for everyone. the composite or the G10 version are both around your price point. the OD-1 is also very nice and a little cheaper, its not AO (but it opens faster than one) which could be a plus or a minus depending on who you are giving it to. If you shop around you can find the JYD-II composite for about $70 as well, or the plain G10 for around $45.

if the gift is meant as a light use EDC/gentleman's folder I would go with the G10 Leek. if its gonna be a hard use work knife, the G10 JYD-II.

Yeap , Kershaw offers the best bang for your dollars.

Groove and OD-1 come to mind. Both are excellent knives backed my the best production warranty there is.

You may be able to find a used Spyderco Volpe for around $70. There was one for about that on the exchange recently. The Kershaw Storm isn't for everybody, but is $40 or less for a steel framelock. The Kershaw Groove sells for more but is still under $70 and similar in that it is a very sturdy steel framelock. Of course the Kershaw Vapors are framelocks for under $20, but aren't very good knives IMHO.

The first thing that came to mind was the Shallot by Kershaw, but Kershaw's Groove is a good option. It doesn't look like a frame lock, but it is.

Actually the Volpe sells new lower than that--from STP for ~$55 if you sign up for their mailing list and get the 30% coupon they send out often.

My brother, you know the answer on this one. It's a Kershaw of your choice!

I'd have a hard time picking between a Leek or Shallot personally, but probably in the Leek's favor...
