Want to learn... At least before I purchase something. Is there any good ones out there you guys can recommend? I had solid edge 2d but it doesn't have a command line which seems pretty good to have.

If you're wanting something like AutoCAD, but free, then try DraftSight. It's free for the home user, and if you're good with AutoCAD, you'll have a very fast learning curve. Most commands are the same from command line. It opens and saves to .dwg format so it's almost like AutoCAD

I get name brand AutoCAD free being a student. You might look and see if there are deals out there you qualify for.

The command line is a must for me. Often it's easier to just start typing than click through a million menus.

There is also OnShape.com. Cloud-based CAD that you use from your browser or phone/tablet. They have a lot of tutorials on their site as well. I still can't even draw a straight line or a circle so I always pay to have someone draw my stuff for me. One day maybe I'll have time to sit down and learn one of these programs.

Regarding OnShape, I don't know what you mean but command line but their software does seem to support keyboard shortcuts.

This is the one I settled on, free and replicates Autodesk most closely from what I can see - has a command line (which is a must for me). Thanks!

Have you looked at Fusion 360? No command line but I never had a need for one; I actually saw that as a thing of the past
