What do you think are the best gentlemans knives?

In some other threads these have been mentioned:

- Mcusta Take
- CRK Mnandi
- William Henry (thanks scurvy092)
- Some sort of traditional.

What's your personal choice?

You probably meant William Henry instead of McHenry & Williams and that's who you should go for.

Iv'e got a Strider Msc pt and its small, light, and more than tough enough to handle most anything.
And when you choke up on it you can still get a full four finger grip on it... just outstanding! Imo

What do you mean by gentlemans?

I'm a blue collar guy so my gentlemans knife would be way different from some suit that drives the newest BMW every 6 months and parks in the handicap spots. For a straight up look at me and my expensive toys kinda knife I'd say a Spyderco GB air, very elegant and pretty and the best materials and I'm sure it cuts stuff well but it's not for me. For me a gentlemans knife has to be sleek and interesting maybe with some modern material for the handle but still has to retain just as much usability as a regular EDC (and it must have a clip, I just can not use a knife without a clip) and for that my two choices would be either a WH E10-8(or -3 if you don't like silver twill) or a Sebenza and if your really going to use it as a knife the Sebenza wins no doubt.

*If you like the GB Air no offense (however if you drive the newest BMW every 6 months and park in the handicap spots then by all means take offense), I respect its a well made knife from great materials with great F&F and at an amazing price point for what all you get but it just looks like a toy to me (and again I have to have a pocket clip on the knife its self).

How about a gentleman's balisong?

William Henry Knives are the epitome of a Gentlemen's foldes for design, craftsmanship and quality. Light, strong and great slicers. Popular models are the EDC E10 and E6 series. The one I carry a lot is the William Henry B12 Atlas Spearpoint with titanium handles, button lock and a 3" blade of ZDP-189.

By the way, McHenry & Williams were the two designers at Benchmade who came up with the famous AXIS Lock.

A gentlemans knife is probably very open to interpretation, but to me it's something that's elegant, clean, and sleek. Something that you would wear to a nice dinner, or a funeral. I wouldn't expect a gentlemans knife to be designed for hard use, but it would be something that could last.

So with that in mind, a gentleman's knife would probably not be something like a benchmade griptilian (too casual), or a cold steel ak-47 (too aggressive), but something more subdued like a case peanut or the ilk.

Just looked it up, 67HRC!? WOW! That's gotta be the hardest I've seen anyone run ZDP, I assume its a solid ZDP blade? Have you had any chipping? I know spyderco turned theirs down from 65 cause it was chipping on to many people but a WH has a different target consumer than a spyderco and is probably used much differently by those people. Do you know of many people have complained to WH about chipping. (Not that I'm shopping for one, just surprised to see a blade ran to 67). Also has anyone ever tested a 67HRC ZDP blade against a ~62?

As a guy that drives a BMW and wears a suit, I carry a Benchmade 480-1 Shoki.

I only park in handicap spaces when no one else is using them ;)

Laminated ZDP-189 that looks and acts like a surgeon's scalpel. I've cut quite a bit with it and once made a mistake of lending it to a friend to remove the foil from a bottle of Scotch. He was actually cutting material from the bottle cap which is a hard material but the knife cut through it. He goes: "That's a sharp knife!". I thought perhaps the blade got damaged but nothing!

Lol! Yea but do you get the newest one every 6 months? If not your good.

I really like the 480-1 Shoki but they're almost impossible to find now days,
I know, I looked, benchmade actually found me one at a dealer sitting in the owners personal safe not even being advertised. Put it on layaway last month.

You need one of these...

And then any knife becomes a gentleman's knife!

Spyderco Centofante 3. Smallish, lightweight, unintimidating. This is what I typically carry to work, and I'm around any number of people all day long without anyone batting an eye at it.

The lock on mine is "meh", but I don't need a hulk lock for my suit knife. The 480-1 is super slim, super light, and M390 takes an edge that makes my Gillette Fusion weep. The only thing it seems to cut is threads hanging off of shirts, envelopes, or missed facial hair. Not a lot of knife use at a law firm :(

Both the Spyderco Air by Gayle Bradley (2.55" blade of CPM-M4) and Benchmade Shoki 480-1 (2.89" blade of M390) mentioned in this thread are great. Neither comes with a clip though but are quite capable. I carried them for a short while until I got the WH B12 Saturn.

Spyderco Centofante Memory - Beautiful knife, outstanding fit & Finish, and very sheeple friendly.
