My son in law is a contractor and he's looking for a fixed blade. He mostly does repairs on houses that includes a lot of demo work. He's not a knife guy and I know he will twist and pry as much as he will cut with it, so it needs to be stout. It also needs to be easy to sharpen because he will be doing that himself. I was thinking maybe a warncliffe with 3-4 inch blade. It has to have a full handle and nice sheath. And since he's new to knives it has to be reasonably priced.

Anyone with suggestions and experience using a knife in that line of work? I would appreciate some help.

That looks like it might work for him but I was thinking he should have a thicker blade. He's very hard on tools. I didn't think about Kizer but it looks like they have a few options. The Snick with AEB-L is a bit short but its fairly thick.

Bahco Heavy duty wrecking knfe 2449.

I used this extensively on my house renovation and the amout of abuse this can take is spectacular.

Doesn't cost the world and is astonishingly sharp right out of the box...

I'll second the Bahco. They make square nose (tip end) knives designed for construction/demolition, and are extremely tough. As long as he has some sort of razor knife/snap blade to go along with it, he should be very happy with it.

Talk to one of the custom makers here on the Forums. A protruding 'butt' could be turned into prying device. Wouldn't need to use the blade.

The handle could be skeletonized to help unsecrew various bolts et al.

I hope they chime in with more expertise sounding advice.

Spoiler alert, it's not a knife.

I was thinking maybe a ka-bar short tanto . I think it's 5 1/2 " blade.
