Best "highend" steel for EDC?

I would say buy the knife you want and if it has any off the premium steels you will be happy.

I don't think you will really notice the difference in them while using them as long as you keep the knife sharp.

Very wise words.

as far as the best performer i really like the m4 put out by spyderco. however not many models come in this alloy. have the gayle bradley but hate to edc it since its a little heavy & soooo pretty.wish a mainstream endura would hit the market. certainly it would replace my endura zdp since my cardboard cutting tests with mule m4 were nothing short of phrenomanal.

I do agree with you. The GB is just too heavy for EDC. Still waiting for a small FFG with M4 from Spyderco:).

Man, how can you make me choose?

VG10 is for me a dream to sharpen, but I don't have any folders in it, only fixed. Not sure how it would hold up.
S30V on my Native is amazing! I got it hair-whittling sharp, a skill I don't usually have. And it holds that edge for a very long time.
154CM was a pain in the behind. I couldn't get it to sharpen right before getting my DMT Aligner kit. Now, I love it. Not as much as S30V, but it's great.
D2. Hey, it's on all my Queens, so it can't be that bad. That being said, I have no problem sharpening it, but maybe not to the point of some others.
SGPS by Fallkniven. How can you leave that out? It ranks right up there with S30V in my book.
I can't comment on the M series, nor the ZDP189, although a certain Spydie keeps calling me.

I really like VG-10

but i never experienced other (super)steel than S30V & VG-10

For me, hands down no questions asked its ZDP. A wonderful steel that keeps a great edge a long time whether at 40 inclusive or <30. I've never had a chipping or rust problem; it just keeps on cutting. It seems to like either a toothy or polished edge. Truly amazing stuff. Also on the list is 110V and SG2. I'm also looking forward to trying out some Uddeholm EL-Max and Bohler M390 too.

Well thanks for the help guys. I recently had bought a Microtech LUDT as my first "high end" knife. First time I have experienced a high end steel, and I am amazed. I was wanting to know if anything was in the real world "better", because I can't believe how sharp this is.

I really, really like S30V. But then again, I was perfectly happy with 154CM before that. S30V just seems to hold an edge longer. ZDP is good stuff, but I've had a few problems with corrosion. I like INFI too, but it's a bit difficult to find in a folder. ;) VG10 is also very, very good. There are plenty of amazing steels on the market these days. H1 is nothing to sneeze at either.

The only steel that's pretty popular right now on folders that I DON'T like is D2. It rusts too easily, and doesn't hold an edge (for me) as well as S30V. D2 has kept me away from several Benchmade offerings that I'd really like otherwise.
