I'm looking into getting an XBox for Christmas....

My question is this: is something about to come out that will surpass it? (like Playstation 2 did to the Playstation)

If XBox 2 or Playstation 3 is about to come out, I'll wait and buy one of those. If not, the XBox will be on Santa's list!

Any info is appreciated.

Moving to Gadgets & Gear. ;)

I have an Xbox so I am partial to it. I don't think the PS2 is bad. You can get more games for it. But I think the game quality is better on an XBox. Xbox live is the best you can get for a console gaming system. I know a friend of a friend who modifies xboxes to hold something like 100 games. This way you can rent a game download it and not have to buy it. The PS has the advantage of being smaller.

I am an unabashed RPG fan, so I have to go with the PS2, though I'd wait until 3rd quarter next year when the PS3 will hit the stores (by Christmas certainly). I love the Xbox as far as gaming experience goes, since its basically a PC stripped of all redeeming programs. So, it probably depends on what kind of games you like to play, but for RPGs, NOTHING beats Sony. Sure, the PS2 has its problems, being the industry leader means you can cut some corners without taking too much damage to your customer base (Sony brought out the PS2 before it was really ready in order to get to the Christmas buying), but the problems don't end up meaning that PS2 games are somehow like playing on a Super NES compared to the Xbox versions. So...

Xbox till 3rd quarter, with a PS3 for next Christmas!!!

Sincerely,
Anthony C. Paulin

There's always something better around the corner. Get an Xbox and you'll have the most powerfull system on the market until something else comes along.
You get to play halo 2, half life 2, dead or alive, burnout 3, knights of the old republic etc... Plus it's the only system that supports 1080i high def and 5.1 surround.

Get a used PS2 if you really want but get it in addition to the xbox.

Thanks for the info guys!

I forgot to mention that I already have a Playstation 2! I enjoy it VERY much! I have tons of games to play on it and none of them have really let me down.

I just want to play Doom 3.... can you blame me? oh, and Halo 2, etc... :D

I was just wondering if my XBox would be obsolete the second I bought it or not. I guess not... at least for a year or so!

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas.

I have hear rumors of an XBOX 2.

There was an article that came out a while ago about it. However I can't find it, also people on a different forum were arguing over it's lagitamency because of the wording. Something like the spelling of certain words were how English people spell. Something like that.

The "Phantom" is also supposed to be out sometime. That was another rumory thing. Apparently it's real and the president of the company making it was spoke via phone on air on G4 TV.

Oh, Halo 2, I'm not sure if I'm satisfied. It's pretty good, but not as great as when the first came out. The thing I really didn't like is that it seemed to me like the AI is not a great but the made the weapons more weak, and that provides the difficulty (normal difficulty).

Don't worry about the 2nd iteration of the Xbox anytime soon; it definitely won't be out anytime in 2005 and maybe not in 2006. The specifications are just now being established. It looks like it's going to use an Apple G5 processor (weird, huh)! If there's anyway possible you can get the XBox live service you've got to try it! Halo 2 kicks ass playing live, as well as Mortal Kombat: Deception and the forthcoming Mechassault: Lone Wolf.

OH!!!! Well why didn't you say something! Get the Xbox! If you have a PS2, you'll be set to trade that sucker in when the PS3 comes out next year and get some more money for games. I would assume that the PS3 would be backwards compatible to at LEAST PS2 games, though maybe not PS1. All together now:

Xbox!
Xbox!
Xbox!

Sincerely,
Anthony

If you already own a PS2 then score an X-Box, but I hope Doom3 isn't as boring on that as it is on PC!

Cool thing is you can chip your X-Box,put in a bigger Hard Drive, stick Linux on it if ya want, use it to store and play movies, music, games, makes a great little PC if you don't want to lug your Desktop about the place.
The Home PC with a broadband connection is still the Daddy though!
Movies,Music,Online Gaming,Flight Sims,Watch TV,edit and burn home movies to DVD,send your MP3 to your stereo system on a wireless home network, link your Laptop wirelessly too if your flash enough to have all the boys toys :D
And it's a clock and a calculator also!

Hey guys!

There for a long while it looked like I was not meant to have an X-Box for Christmas... I called EVERY GAME STORE FROM HERE TO ALBUQUERQUE, and NONE of them had any X-Boxes. Seriously, every game store I called or went to was out and would not have any more until mid January... and when they got there, they had people signed up to buy them.

I had all but given up hope.

Then one day my mommy called! (I knew if anybody could get one, momma could! She is the Cabbage Patch Kid, Stretch Armstrong, Tickle Me Elmo Champion!) Anyway, she said she went into Wal Mart where she lives (Omaha, Neb.) and decided just for fun to check the electronics section. She stepped up to the counter and asked if they had any X-Boxes. They laughed as usual. Then she said "well, what's that down there?" The doofus workers looked down by their feet and spied an X-Box, brand new, fresh in the box. They both were absolutely shocked! They started asking everybody where it came from. Finally they found out from the lady in layaway that some lady had canceled her layaway and the X-Box was in it. It was up for grabs! Well, ma snatched it then and there, and I now have a brand new X-Box in my living room. (Thanks Ma!!!)

Anybody have any recommendations for games? I am already going to get Halo 2 when I save up the $, and Doom 3 when it comes out. For now I have Tennis and Football (came with the setup), Wolfenstein - tides of war, Medal of honor, and Soul caliber 2.

What are some must have games for the X-Box? Keep in mind that I can (and will) buy games used!

Thanks!

Though I don't have either (PC is fine for me), I note from watching TechTV that the XBox is "modable" to a large extent; you can add hard drives and do all sorts of other things pretty easily.
