BEST Hunting knife?!?! -$100

Mora, I was, going to recommend the 511, I love it but it has no flex like the one mentioned. It's small though, with a pronounced guard and that's why it's awesome.

Small, sharp, and safe.

When I started deer hunting in 1991 I received a Buck Vanguard as a gift or maybe a different model that had a skinner notch. I found this kind of size and blade length ideal, and much easier to use than some of my friends' larger "hunting knives". On my third deer dressing, the tip of the Buck broke. Pretty disappointed in Buck, I bought a Cold Steel Master Hunter, 4 inch drop point in Carbon V., again in a similar size and style. I still have this knife today and although it looks like hell still functions as it did when I bought it. This model is still available although place of manufacture and type of steel may have changed and in probably in your price range.

Ive used my ESEE II the last 2 seasons for 7 deer, fish, countless duck...and can EDC it if you want

+1

I'm not much of a hunter, but I have a Cold Steel Master Hunter San Mai, and it's nice blade. It has such a good feel to it in my hand. I know you can find it right now for ~ $75.

I stepped up to a Bark River for my bigger game, Prior to that I used, and still, use a Buck 119. For smaller game, anything smaller that a coyote, I use a Spyderco Manix XL. the blade shape is perfect for gutting and skinning game

I have a Buck Vanguard with a guthook, I have a Silver Stag Damascus with antler handle, I have a Schrade Sharpfinger ($15...ha!)....plus a multitude of other hunting knives, from $30 to $200....and hands down my favorite hunting knife is that cheap Sharpfinger. It's sharp as hell, easy to sharpen, excellent for field dressing, quartering, and most of the butchering of deer, and is also excellent birds, squirrels, rabbit, and even cleaning fish (cleaning, not necessarily filleting). It's small, light, easy to carry, and doubles as a great all around camp knife. As a bonus, it's a super cool looking little full tang knife. Everything about it is just perfectly likable. Plus, if you lose it you're out $15....but you'll still cry b/c you'll have lost your favorite knife.
Can't for the life of me figure out why that little knife doesn't cost $80.

I can't imagine a better hunting knife than tgis. Queen Canoe style. Stag , D2 tool steel and made in the USA. Can be had for $65 give or take.

The Bucklite Max #679 or the Buck Paklite Large #141. Easy to keep sharp, though they come extremely sharp, and the ergonomics for skinning/cutting are great. And you can't beat the price-point...under $25.

There are dozens makers that use excellent blades of fine and properly treated steel in oodles of models.
What to choose depends very much on personal taste.
My hunting blades are Knives of Alaska Yukon, cleaver and alpha wolf models of D2 steel.
Spyderco Moran drop point in VG10 steel
Puma Bowie model I believe in 1.4116 steel
Thinking about getting a Grohman Model 1 in carbon steel, just to have an old classic.
I tend to gravitate towards the Knivs of Alaska models.

i have a blind horse hunter pro i got for $75. I thought it was gonna be a little small for its purpose, but i'm finding it to be the perfect size. impressive little blade.

Keep the field dressing and butchering as separate tasks with different tools. If you are in the kitchen, do you choose a tiny knife to cut a big roast unless that is all you have? Oh, Skriket33, welcome to BF. Suspected it had to be a newish member reviving on old thread. But the thread topic is universal and not time stamped.
