I want to buy a Kershaw for my dad's birthday, its his favorite brand. My max price would be around $100. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something on the unique side with some interest, not just an everyday carry.

Check out the kershaw chive 1600BLK Tungsten,

SPECIFICATIONS:
Made in the USA
Steel: 420HC stainless-steel Tungsten DLC coated
Handle: 410 stainless-steel Boron-coated
Blade Length: 1 15/16 in. (4.9 cm)
Closed Length: 2 7/8 in. (7.3 cm)
Overall Length: N/A
Weight: 1.9 oz.

The coating is unique because it is super hard, and the knife comes in a unique metal painted tin with red velvet inside.

I agree most with the recommendation for the Lahar. It provides the most bang for your buck. An excellent knife, respectable steel, discontinued, and relatively uncommon. And can, surprisingly, still be found for a reasonable price (under $100). One of the few non-pm steel knives that I actually own... In fact, I had to pull mine out for awhile just to fondle. ...my knife, you dork...

You would definitely be doing right by your father with a Lahar.

An s30v Blur would also be pretty darn cool. And you wouldn't be skimping on the steel.

Good for you. You have a fortunate father.

Junkyard Dog 2.2, it's got a super unique pocket clip and a composite blade. Definitely unique and awesome :)

Kershaw Piston. 14C28N steel with G10 scales made in the USA. Between $55-$65 depending on where you get it from.

Depending, of course, on your dad's taste and how he uses knives, I can only recommend my beloved Kershaw Double Cross. Something to keep in your pocket all the time and just forget it is there... until you need to cut. A beautiful little piece of art, currently available at a steal price. Rather small and gentlemanly, it's not for those heavy tasks.

Kershaw Knockout or Kershaw R.A.M.! Or if you can find a deal on one the Kershaw Skyline with Damascus blade.

Blurs has been extremely popular with my family and friends when I give it to them as a gift.

1670BGTST Green Smoke Tanto Blur
1725CBBLK Limited Edition All Black

Mini Cyclone (Drop point or Tanto)
Speed bump/Spec bump
Groove (LOVE this one, I have one, wont let it go!)

Blur in a unique color--Kershawguy has green and red tanto blur's. Pretty cool IMO. I have a desert tan one.

I know it's not a Kershaw, but I got my dad this for his birthday:

There's a larger version of the same knife as well (I have one of those). Very very heavy, very pretty, S30 steel.

If I you're dead set on a Kershaw get him the Blur with the S30 steel. In either case, you may want to sharpen it for him first lest he curse your name for giving him an unsharpenable (no, not a word) knife.

The echelon is a very cool knife, natural (transulent) G10 scales, interesting blade shape and thumb stud, under 1/2 your max budget. I owned one and traded it for a blur and I absolutely love the blur but I miss is echelon quite a bit more than expected, actually I'll probabily end up buying another now tha the price has dropped, original they were hard to find.

All these posts about giving knives to your fathers makes me sad, dad died 368 days ago. I love & miss you dad.

Mine died about 2 years ago and I'm only 26...he's still in my dreams to this day so I am happy you still have your father, Mac93.

I'm sure any knives you choose, your father will love it. That's what fathers do, love whatever we give them. :)

I'm sorry for your loss; mine almost died in February 1) while I was changing jobs for the first time in 13 years, and 2) the day before his mother's (my granny's) funeral. I was at his side until he told me to go get ready for the funeral. Was a very serious heart attack, and he pulled through (Thank you Vanderbilt Heart) but I don't know where I'd be if he weren't still around.
