best key chain knife

I think my only problem with the Classic is the key ring location. I'd probably end up getting a case like you have there so I can take it out. I also found the SD tip quite handy.

Yeah, no matter which way the keyring is put on, it's facing he wrong way. If they put it on the other end, then everytime you use the scissors, the keys are in the way. As it is, when you use the knife blade or the SD tip of the nail file, the keys are still in the way. That's one reason I made the pouch. The knife fits all the way in, so that the keyring is the only part sticking out, and I use it as a grab ring to pull the classic out of the sheath. It makes the classic more usable. Some scrap leather, some waxed linen thread, an awl, and you're in business.

The key ring location is reversed on the Rambler, so both the knife and scissors face away from the keys. Plus that beefy bottle opener/Phillips driver is clutch.

The Vic Rambler and Manager both have the key ring location and main blade/scissors in the "right place" so they open away from the keys. The Rambler has everything the Classic's got plus a small phillips screwdriver/bottle opener. I carry the Manager because its basically the Rambler but has a small pen instead of the toothpick (still has the tweezers.) The Alox Classic is the thinnest, followed by the Cellidor Classic, followed by the Rambler, then the Manager. The scale for the pen is about twice as thick as a regular scale.

I always have my swisschamp on my belt but I could see upgrading the classic to something like that just in case all I have time to grab is my keychain.

I use one of these size #0 S-Biners to attach my Manager to my keys. Quick release both ways. The SAK also sits a little further away from your keys which makes using it pretty easy while still attached.

Those are cool! Nice inka too btw

I submit to you the Cold Steel Super Edge, shown here with the other day's EDC. I love the ergonomics and grippiness of the kray-ex handle, the tough AUS8A blade that I use more than any other carry knife, and the sheath with great retention. The best part? It's a fixed blade! That means my keys aren't dangling around and annoying me when I need to cut something. I can also use it for messy jobs like saucy steak and not worry about getting junk in the pivot, because there is no pivot. I can just wash it like a kitchen knife after with no problems.

Only comes fully serrated. Some people won't like that, I think it makes an excellent compliment to a plain edged primary knife. I only paid $16 for mine. Kray-ex nonslip handle, Japanese AUS8A blade, made in Japan...I don't think it gets much better than that for a keychain knife.

I do not like my keychain crowded so I do not carry any one my keychain but some of my top choices would be in the bug series by Spyderco or a mini Swiss multitool.

Another vote for SAK Classic. Mine is black so it doesn't stand out against the keys and the fob. Another choice would be the SAK Companion. It is basically a Classic, minus the plastic scales, toothpick, and tweezers.

I use to believe I would never replace the SD on my key ring, Then I picked up a ladybug (which I always imagined being slightly bigger) and it replaced it immedentally. Then I got a really cheap old ladybug1 and reground it to a recurve and it replaced the LB3 and I haven't looked back since.

I know alot of people like paracord lanyards and decorative shit but I use one of those simple (and very low-pro) cable loop lanyards from country-comm to attach it.

Another vote for the Victorinox Classic  I have had one on my keys for a few months now and it is great, you don't even notice its there.

I'm generally a traditionalist, but will make exception for the keychain knife. I've been impressed a great deal with my H1 Ladybug, it garners a lot of positive attention due to the handle color, and the serrated H1 has superb edge retention. Cuts all out of proportion to its size, a true " little big knife".

Multi-function? - SAK Classic for me all the way...scissors, toothpick, and tweezers get TONS of use.

Blade only, and truly key sized? - AG Russell Ultimate Pen Knife or 3.0 Lockback.

Victorinox Classic. I use the tools all the time. "Small" blade is quite capable.

That's what I say too. For the same size as the Ladybug, you get a blade (albeit non-locking), flat/phillips driver, nail file, scissors, tweezer and toothpick.

Since 9-11, I have stopped carrying a knife on my key chain. I have to go through too many metal detectors in my business. However, prior to that I always had a Leatherman Micra. I now carry a Victorinox Classic sd loose in my pocket most days. It is a lot easier to just take it out of my pocket than have to remove it from my key chain.

I like the SOG keyknife. It has a small sak style blade in a key shaped handle and a backlock.
