Best Keyring?

After reading Tknife's post about a certain keyring, I now have a question.

What is everybody's favorite type/brand/style/whatever of keyring.

What do you carry?

I have about an even 100 keychains that I've collected throughout the years. Currently I have my car keys on a titanium D ring from CountyComm with a Victorinox enamel medalion (or Ghurka keyring), a Photon, and a plain edged Ladybug. My house keys are organized in either my Ghurka leather keycase or Louis Vuitton damier keycase.

I've never paid as much attention to the keyring as I have what's ON it. However, it would be nice to see some other options than the standard split ring. :)

Kinda partial to the one I made:

Last one's in camo, but I haven't taken pics yet.

Best thing is, it doubles as an impact weapon, if needed.

I like split rings. I've gotten oval rings like the CountyComm but they have a tendency to jam going around the turn. A split ring has no bias and the keys and other items slide around freely.

Does that help?

If not, then I might need someone else to host the pics for me. I don't have more than a basic membership and the pics are hosted elsewhere right now.

I saw the picture this morning but not now (6 hours later).

I guess since the pics didn't come through, imagine this.

A standard type round, square, flat or spiral wound lanyard in a single color or two, in paracord. Either in bright colors, or in dull, camo type cord.

Then imagine a solid 5" long core, and a solid, 5/16" diameter ring on one end and a split ring for keys on the other. Then imagine what a fist full of cord wrapped steel would do for your defense.

Now imagine you, or your wife with this in hand going to the car. A nefarious individual approaches and you're not armed (conventionally, that is). (I know that wouldn't happen to any of us, but just pretend here a little, eh.) With this held in your fist, the large, solid ring could be used in much the same way as a kubotan, though less threatening. Solid impact abilty, with low visibility.

And that same ring would allow the whole thing to be placed on the old key hooks lots of us have at home when done with them for a while.

Just fooling around with some ideas when that one came to me.

I don't know if anyone here would like the concept, but I do. Plus several people at work.

Hey, I get lunch money out of it. :D

I don't carry too much on my keychain so I use a small size stainless steel carabiner-type item that I bought at a boating store. It's much sturdier than the small alloy junk ones that you find in department stores (it's rated at 120 kg)but doesn't weigh much more. It's marked AISI 318, not sure if that's the model number or the steel.

Ed, send 'em to me, I'll post them for ya bro.

Like Peter said, I worry more about what is on it than what it is.

But I too am always open to change.

I usually use split rings I get for free from the instant lottery scratchers when I get gas. Given away, free rings.

Years ago I had a girfriend who was very wealthy. I'll never forget flying up to Martha's Vineyard for the weekend with her and her parents in an beautiful twin engine Beechcraft plane. I was sitting in the copilot's seat scared about to death wondering how to land the thing in case her 65 year old two pack a day smoking father keeled over.

Anyway, her dad had a his airplane keys on a silver U shaped keyring from Tiffany's that was incredibly nice and I was lusting after it pretty hard. I looked at the Tiffany's stuff recently and they still sell that particular keyring but it's nowhere near as nice as the old one that her father had. At least the one in the picture didn't LOOK as nice, maybe it was simply the years of wear that I was responding to.

No, like the bottom part of this one

Check the shackles on the wichard.com catalog. You can buy their stuff retail at westmarine.com or wholesale at portsupply.com

AAh, I like mine better-I have a brass version that I bought for 50 cents. :D

For those of you who are more concerned about what's on your keychain that the keychain itself...
what if the keychain is the weak link in the chain?

I change key rings often, just like other EDC stuff:)
At the moment, I'm using a silver, Levenger key ring that has a miniature ink bottle at one end and a fountain pen nib at the other. It is "U" shaped and has a little tag with my initial. The "bottle" acts as the removeable section.
This was probably modelled after the Tiffany rings from the posts, above.
I also use the same ones that Jazzman does. We're buddies and often buy two of the same items, excluding his LV things. :( My grandchildren get that money.
I really do need some more suggestions on how to carry the enormous amounts of "stuff" that I do. A sickness, I know-shared among many of my forum members:)
I teach college and it doesn't give a good impression to "jingle, jangle, jingle" with keys hanging on the outside of the pants.
I've been mistaken for the custodian and asked to open classrooms! LOL

Best regards,
Prof. Ed
