best knife/blade/machete for beach/jungle camping

Something like the Becker BK-11 or Izula may be just what you need.

Oh come on, Joe! You're allowed to talk about your own design a little! :D The TOPS Shango would be great for the task since it's a stainless option!:thumbup:

So i finally went on the camping trip... and what do you know i brought everything BUT... the damn Machete...

So the pawn shop knife i had held up just perfectly. However I wish... I WISH that i'd taken the machete. Life would have been so much easier.

We ended up camping on Culebra's Flamenko beach. It was awesome.. I hadn't been camping in so long. I used the dive knives and the Pawn knife to cut coconuts up and clean them out. I love coco's and fresh coco water.

I'll post pics up when i upload them from my camera. Thanks for all the advice guys, much appreciated.

The 14 inch Tramontina Bolo is a very good general purpose machete, but hard to find a sheath for.

i wholeheartedly agree.

the 14" Bolo is a nice, short machete, with lots of tip weight like a proper hawk - they are inexpensive for what you get, and they are great for multiple environments, especially after the end-user mods them to his or her liking.

we make Rabbitstick Sheaths for our Tramontinas and 3mm sheaths for our other thicker machetes.

Pangas can be very nice too.

Finally the whole Rat pack together as one AND the ferry left us because there was no room left... AND i put the tupperwear i had used for the beef in my brothers bag so the dogs detected something and we got checked as soon as we arrived back to the motherland. Good Times

Boricua, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, looks like you had fun. At least you used your machete on your test camp. I need to take my kids there on our next vacation to Puerto Rico. How are the facilities in Flamenco beach now? I used to go back when only the locals knew about it and you had to hike your way there or go in a jeep because there were no roads going to Flamenco yet.

Hey! thanks man, yea we had a blast. I know I was so bummed that I forgot the machete, hopefully next time i won't forget it =/

As for the conditions at Flamenco, they are absolutely awesome as far as camping goes. The taxi service takes you all the way to the camp site, the showers are completely open and there are enough water faucets for anything you might need. The camp sites are right next to the beach literally 20'ish feet from the gazebo's which is where we camped. It's not that expensive, the taxi's are about $5 round trip p/p. However, the only problem you might have is going on a holiday or a big party weekend or such considering the amounts of debauchery that goes on there.

Otherwise, I had really bad allergies and skin rash which more than cleared up for the two days i was there..

cool crew of buddies.

thanks for sharing those pics, brother.
