Best knife for $70

The Spyderco D'Allara drop point is comparable to the BM Griptilian. It has VG-10 steel, the rolling ball lock (or whatever they call it; it's similar to the axis lock), good ergos, and sells for the mid-$50's from Newgraham.com

i'm biased, but i'd go for a Spyderco Delica or Endura. can hardly go wrong with those.....

You should take a look at the RAT model 1. It's not an AO but is still alot of knife for under $70. www.ontariorat.com

Very nicely made; but the AUS 8 bladesteel is not at the same level as the
Grip's 154CM or the Spydie's VG-10/S30V

I recommend the Griptilian or Spyderco Endura (plain or waved).

If you want an AO, get a Kershaw.

And I think the SOG X Ray Vision 71 model is available in that price
range too. I highly recommend it - ATS-34; Arc-Lock, built as the
Spyderco (Zytel with steel liners) and Griptilian (Noryl GTX with steel
liners). Made in Seki Japan.

I don't have anything in 154cm, but I do have a native in s30v. At first I was reluctant myself with the AUS 8, but I have to admit this knife was one of the sharpest out of the box. With the AUS 8 I don't have to worry about letting it get too dull. I don't feel as though I am touching up the edge on my RAT anymore than I am with my Native. You would really have to handle one to see what I mean. I think sometimes people get too caught up in blade steel, when there is more to edge retention than the number.

As far as corrosion resistance goes, i've been testing some Spydercos in my "Fog Chamber", a 2.5 gallon aquarium with an Ultrasonic Mister unit

knives are placed in the fog layer (balanced on a plastic soda bottle top) and left in the fog 24/7 continuously until rust forms

here's how the steels stacked up so far

Native S30V; cosmetic surface rust in 3 hours, actual rust damage in 9 days
Dragonfly AUS 8; cosmetic rust in 9 hours, damage in 10 days
Delica 4 SS SE VG-10; cosmetic rust in 24 hours, damage in 10 days
Pacific Salt and Salt 1; NO RUST at all, got bored and ended the test after 2 weeks ;)

the Native rusted most extensively inside the SpyderHole, the unfinished areas of S30V inside the hole picked up rust quickly, the damage was a small rust patch on the front quarter of the blade, about 1" in from the tip

the Dragonfly got rust spots on the side of the blade and the 'Bug, inside the SpyderHole, and around the pivot pin, the cutting surface was not damaged, i ended this test due to safety concerns with rust around the pivot pin

the D4 had large patches of rust on the spine, the 'Bug, and inside the SpyderHole, a small patch of rust 1mm or so from the tip ended the test

the H-1 Salts just did..not..rust.. period, stop, end of story

out of all four tested blades, the Native had the least amount of *obvious* rust, and most of that rust inside the SpyderHole was cosmetic, the D4 had the most rust, the D'fly was somewhere inbetween

the threads are on the Spyderco website forums, if you're interested go there and search for my username

so, corrosion-wise, S30V may pick up cosmetic rust sooner, but it takes longer to get actual rust, wheras VG-10 takes longer to get cosmetic rust, but when it starts rusting, it rusts fast and extensively

that said, they're both excellent steels

I have a S30V Leek, a Mini/Large Griptillian, and DID have a Spyderco Delica. The only high end knives I carry other than Benchmades/Kershaws are my Large and Small Sebenza's which are a little out of this price range. But of all the sub $100 knives I've owned I most like my S30V Leek and Griptillians. I just gave my SS Delica to a buddy at work today because in my opinion it didn't feel right and I was unhappy with the blade shape (it always managed to get wedged in cardboard when I was cutting up 4 ft boxes at work) not to mention I hate lockbacks and even though the knife is only 3 months old it developed a nice amount of blade wiggle. I'd recommend the Griptillian for a harder use knife, and because of the thin tip, I'd recommend the Leek as a lighter use knife. Both are very easy to open and close. The Benchmade Axis probably being the easiest lock to use on the market.
