Hi guys. I am looking for a folder for around $70.
Here are the specs:
I prefer spyderco but am open to other brands
Blade must be 3-3.5 inches
Must have belt clip.
No liner locks or lockbacks
Blade steel is not very important but should hold a nice edge
It will be used mostly for edc but sometimes fishing camping ect.
If spring assisted there needs to be a locking mechanism that makes it so you can't open it accidentally
Highest price would be $90 absolute highest
I like g10 but am ok with other
Easy opening and closing
Prefer black coated blades as long as they don't come off easily
One hand opening and closing
Has to be a folder
Must be be light heaviest 4 ounces

I would see if you could get a paramilitary 2 you may end up paying a tad extra but its worth it. Blade is 3.438 " straight off spydercos website. Its a compression lock, nice S30V blade steel, good aggressive g10, super smooth and can be opened and closed with one hand. Everything you want in a knife! There is even a black coated blade version.

I've looked at the para 2 a lot I just can't find it cheap enough

Spyderco Manix 2 Translucent Blue Lightweight, or Spyderco Stretch. The Stretch was Sal's favorite knife for a long time. Great belly, large blade, big handle. Both a great knives that I want to add to my collection.

I second the para 2 suggestion though. If you have the interest in knives to spend $70-$80 you are eventually going to bump up to the $100+ price levels. Once you hit $100 things get much higher end IMHO. S30V and ZDP-189 with really nice high-traction G10. Para 2 for $90-$100 is what I would do if it was my cash. What is $10 in the grand scheme of things?

I'd go to some of the more popular knife websites and sort by price and look at the price range you are interested in.

If I can find a para2 for $90 digicam dlc blade that would be my buy

Kershaw Blur tons of options in that price range. Nice spring assist for 60$ you get sanvic steel and for 80$ you can get them in S30v. I think there is a tanto version. They have light weight aluminum handels, Speed assist and Kershaws TiNi blade coating that is really hard wearing. They are Liner locks but Ive nerver had any of mine fail its not a cheap made knife and Kershaw has great warranty. Your not going to find much with your specs in that price range, most knives at that price point are going to be a liner lock type or lockback. The CRKT Ken Onion Ripple is a frame lock in that price range and they are really nice knives im perty sure they come in coated black blade. Also I think that Benchmade has some knives in the H&K line that you might like.

What do you like about the manix over the pm2

Does it have to be the DLC? I love the satin one much more personally and it knocks about $10 off the price. Why not keep your eyes peeled in the for sale by individual forum? I have found lots of great knives for great prices there.

I agree the Manix 2 sounds like it fits your specifications other than it being about 5 ounces. Trust me the weight of the Manix 2 won't bother you it's a really great knife I've had one for a while and it's one of my favorites.

I do a lot of running and the weight will just be too much. The manix 2 lightweight on the other hand might do it for me. If only they made a manix 2 no liners and g10. Is the ball bearing lock easy to close with 1 hand? Does it hurt it fingers?

My vote would be find the other 10 -20$ and get the Para2 on sale right now for 99.99.

For 70 I will have to say the best knife I IMO is the kershaw blur s30V. Benchmade Griptilian is a good choice you can get that for 80.

Benchmade Griptilian or Barrage, either the mini or the full size versions would be good, as would the aforementioned Spydies.

if you look around you can find new BM griptilians for a tad over 70 and it's an amazing knife

You could get a fancy Kershaw Leek for less than your target budget. The thin slicy blade should be ok for camp-use/food prep as long as you don't abuse it. It's a good knife, but just wasn't right for me... *shrug*
