Best knife for digging out a treestump?

Short of dynamite, a stump grinder, backhoe or other brute force method, I would suggest a mattock or pulaski axe

One ax, one can of gasolene, and a Bic lighter.

BTW, Use the lighter to fire-up a torch and then throw the torch on the gas saturated stump from a safe distance.

Allen.

The last one I did (when I did not feel like paying for someone with a stumpgrinder to do it) was done with a maul (dat's what we call a sledge hammer with a wedge on one end of it down here :D) and a large steel wood splitting wedge.

It took a while, but it seemed to be a decent alternative to a stump-grinder (for under 25 bucks).

Go to your local farm supply and get a bag of 40% ammonium nitrate fertilizer and take it home, soak it in some denatured alcohol (eats away clay coating). then coffee grind right away to avoid spoiling due to moisture absorbtion. Place powered fertilizer in folgers coffee can and mix in powered aluminum (radiator stop leak). Mix throughly, add heated/melted vaseline to it, just enough so the consistency is pliable but not overwhelmingly sticky. Insert improvised blasting cap. Light LONG fuse and ran away. Pack up and move before law enforcement shows up.

Have a nice day!!!

Can you still buy those hollow handled flea market Rambo Knives for a dime a dozen? I'd suggest a few of those with the contents of the above post packed into the handle. That failing, perhaps some good ole fashioned Pyrodex in the handle... :D

Good Evening All-

One would not use a knife for stump removal the same way they would not use a peppermill to grind coffee beans. Find a contractor who lives in your neighborhood who will yank the tree remnants for $50 and some beer.

I friend o mine says he has used some old motor oil mixed with a little gas. Just pour it all over the stump, give it time to soak in. And toss in a match. But just remember there will be a lot of black smoke around, so don't roast any marshmellows on the fire. :D

Just wanna point out that I was kidding. Just like a 12 gauge shotgun is the best knife for fighting a bear, I'm pretty sure the pick/adze, felling axe, and pair of shovels we used was the best knife for digging out a stump.

I would'a said something earlier, but I was enjoying the responses :D
