Best knife for EDC or just in general?!?!?!

This may start some controversy, but what is the best EDC knife or just best knife in general? Any price range, any style, any steel... Best edc... Best ever... Best user under $100...
I personally tend to stick with CRK, Spydercos, Benchmades, and sometimes Sog's... I like the axis style lock as it add to strength of locking... I'm a lefty so I like ambidextrous ones... I like to keep my blade razor sharp at all times, so good edge retention is a plus. I love to show how sharp my knife is too by slicing thru paper like its butta! Dont judge! lol

Best at what?

Best in size? Cold Steel Espada XL.

Best in cutting? Almost any knife with a bit of stone and strop work will be insanely sharp.

Best for the price? Too many to evaluate.

For the price I think the Spyderco Endura 4 FFG in VG-10 is a very good EDC, on the one hand because it is a cheapish knife so if it gets lost or broken you're shrugging and buying another, rather than slitting your wrists, on the other because they take a very sharp edge and do all the necessary knifey stuff. The best? No. Pretty good? Yes.

For me that knife is a Case 47 pattern stockman. I carry one in my pocket darn near every day and it has never failed to get the job done and then some. It is plenty easy to keep your blade razor sharp when you have three of them!

I carried a Spyderco Pacific Salt for the better part of 15 years... It never let me down... Now I carry a couple of different knives, one of my trusty Markells, and usually one from Tobin Smith, but I've been carrying one from DP lately.

My Markells and my Tobin have all been used for doing almost everything... from opening boxes (they all have a couple of hundred on them) to boning and skinning chickens... One of the Markells even dispatched a few lobster... So yea I use my "EDC Knives" for just about everything... But I'm smart about it, I wouldn't use them for cutting timber for a fire... I've got other sharp objects for that... I just received my DP so it's still making its rounds...

Oh and they're all fixed blades...

<sorry, rant on>
Everyone talks about "the best EDC"... first I don't like the word "best" as it leaves no room for improvement and it's very subjective... My best, could possible be the worst to some, a joke to others, or just not a good fit to the rest.. The other thing that kind of miffs me about threads like this is that a lot of times people don't tell what they use their knives for... Sometimes they don't eve say why they like it, they just drop a list... anyways /rant

EDIT: Ooops almost forgot, the prices... the Markells were just over $100, but the others were right at...

If you're asking about the one EDC I could live with forever, it would be the 556 mini grip.

I've had a numerous amount of knives, lol... Each one I say can fit the bill...

Dpx Hest. 2.0 left handed
Sog spec elite 1
Sog pentagon elite 1
Spyderco tenacious
Benchmade mel pardue
Cold steel, etc.......

All are fine knives. I'm just looking for one now that meets the following criteria:
1. axis style lock (for ease of flicking opened and closed, plus its a very strong lock)
2. 154cm or equivalent steel (found its fairly easy to sharpen and holds an edge)
3. flat handles/scales (don't like the knife to be too fat or noticeable in the pocket)
4. drop point or spear point blade
5. hollow ground
6. left hand friendly

anyone have any good suggestions, let me know!!! Thanks

I thought H1 has only been used for a few years now?

Get a Benchmade Contego. One knife to rule them all, if you don't mind carrying a big one.

Depending on your desired size, and aside from not being hollow ground, you pretty much just described the benchmade 707 and 710. If you can give up the spear/drop point n favor of a reverse tanto, a benchmade 940 also fits the bill. If you like assisted openers the new benchmade volli looks like it might be a winner. And if you're open to spyderco knives that use a similar "axis style" lock, the manix 2 with its captive ball bearing lock and the sage 3 with its bolt action lock are tough to beat.

For me, the knives I've been EDC are one of the Opinel models I bought last month and a Spyderco Tenacious or Persistence. The novelty didn't wear off and I am enjoying them quite a bit.

It's been around for a while, I'm pretty sure I got my PS in 01... It was supposed to be "my last knife" IIRC it wasn't cheap at the time either =\

So yea 15 may be a stretch... but at least a decade...

Benchmade 530. I traded mine (I really REALLY wanted a Contego) but it was a great knife. Only thing is that it is absolutely optimized for low weight/thinness so the axis lugs are a bit different than normal.

An amazing knife though. Check one out.

For spyderco id say delica endura or tenacious. Benchmade id say griptilian or presidio. Hogues button lock makes the Ex-01 easy to use both right and left.

Native 5 is the best for me

Under $100.00 ---
Most all of the steel mentioned above are worthy knives. My 2 cents is this...
I have had steel addiction for a long time. I own alot of knives. Super high-end to a few high quality under $25 pieces.
I have done alot of unboxing, and after checking the new one out, I always refer back to the question myself and friends
ask. Best Value For The Money? Our answer is always the same.
Boker Plus Kalishnikov 101
or
Boker Plus Kalishnikov Flipper 65
Sits in the pocket great, very sharp, snaps open super easy and hard,
and feels so solid in your hand that you think it should cost more than
twice what you paid. Cost $75
Black or Green Handles / Black or Satin Finish / Plain or Part Serrated.

It's tough to beat a good ol' Swiss Army knife for EDC, imo...

For me... Best Edc = the largest fixed blade I can comfortably conceal and carry. Bk 14, Esee 3, bravo 1, depends what I am wearing, where I am going, what I am doing, etc. i am not a folder guy unless its a multitool.

Each person's parameters for defining "best" are different, so there really is no such thing as an objective "best" knife under $100. I might like small today, serrated tomorrow, and big the next day. So I don't even agree with myself - much less anyone else.

Spyderco Manix 2 literally fits every one of those requirements.
