Best knife for the money

Opinel. Pick your size and steel. Then with the money you saved, get a Swiss Army knife.

That said, my favorite is a Spyderco Sage I. I still carry an Opinel more often, in my restaurant, I treat them rough and the Opinel/SAK combination is tough and inexpensive.

I'm looking for a durable pocket knife with a blade length 3" or less but am not sure what to get. I want it for my EDC so it needs to reliable. What do you guys recommend? I've been looking at the kershaw skyline and leek so what's ur opinion on them but any other suggestions will be appreciated?

Leek and Skyline are both great picks at around $40. The Composite Blade Leek is a bit more (~$65), but the D2 steel on the cutting edge is really great stuff. The 14C28N in the standard model Leeks and Skylines is also good stuff. The CB Leek is probably the most-used EDC knife among my entire collection.

The Delica is another great knife at around $55. Great ergos, and the VG-10 steel takes and holds a great edge.

The Cryo, Injection 3.0, and CQC-5K are great designs that can be picked up for about $35. These are collaborative designs by Hinderer, Rexford, and Emerson in the last couple of years. All three use 8Cr13MoV, which is decent for most typical urban EDC uses. All three are well built and are pretty rugged.

The RAT-2 and Zancudo are both good knives at under $30. Both have the exact same materials (AUS-8 blade, FRN handles, and I've read are both made by the same factories), so it's just a matter of preference - frame lock vs. liner lock, spear point vs. drop point.

The KaBar Dozier Folding Hunter knives are also good knives for under $20. I keep one in my work bag to serve as a loaner. It's good enough to where I can loan it out and trust that I'm handing my coworkers something that will work well for them, but cheap enough to where if they lose or break it, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. This one also uses AUS-8 and has FRN handles.

I would also suggest the spyderco delica and endura. Both very capable yet comfortable knives that don't cost too much and have very tough attributes.
I take my blue endura to the beach and ocean and have yet to have any trouble with sand or rust, and I've also accidentally hit the edge on rebar and was easily able to fix the rather large chip in the edge.
Also love my military, para 2, sage and sage 2 if those are financially possible.

3" or less? Hum. Kershaw leek,Benchmade 556,Leatherman sidekick, Kabar 1152,Spyderco Delica, Cold Steel HoldOut III or Recon MINI. Wanna spend more?, i think all Benchmade and ZT models are worth their weight in gold. If you said how much your willing to spend and how it will be used would help people have i better idea of what your looking for and give a better descriptive answer too.:)

Not particularly cheap, but not overpriced either, and completely reliable and durable, the ZeroTolerance 0350ST. I have the serrated version because I don'l like sharpening recurves on super hard stainless blades, and the Kershaw/ZT serrations are quite nice anyway. It's heavy for a little folder, but quite substancial. It was $100 well spent, and I'll probably be able to pass that one down to one of my kids in 10years or so.

Little bit beefier blade and great value would be the new Ritter mini-griptilian in M390 steel. One of the best steels out on the market. Great value, but has cheapish plastic scales.
This is a great knife and a good buy. But a better value in a premium steel is the light weight Manix 2 in s110v steel. The Manix2 in s30v is also a good value in a cheaper package. These blades are around 3.4 inches, but they are relatively light and carry easily.

To add, I could see the skyline being a usefull tool, but I've owned a leek and the tips on those are really thin. Mine didn't last long. Beware of that.

How beefy do you need and what is your price range?

To me one of the best solid knives for the money is the Buck Vantage Pro. Spyderco's FRN knives tend to feel flimsier than they actually are. I tried to see what it would take to break a delica once and and the blade broke before the handle did. If you can swing it the Benchmade 940 and Sage 2 are two of my favorite tough knives without going to Hinderer or Strider tough.

Or most Zero Tolerance knives
