I used to think the Mora Heavy Duty was the highest value knife around. I just received a Mora Classic #1 in the mail (literally minutes ago), and this thing is nice! It feels sturdy, the blade is nicely polished, RAZOR sharp, and the sheath is a lot sturdier than I expected. I'm gonna be modding this thing, then giving it to a friend for his birthday. I'll post pics here after the mods.

Not the most exciting blade in the world but for it's price I think an Opinel 8 would be hard to beat..

Edit, and for a fixed blade probably a Cold Steel GI Tanto which is basically a big slab of carbonsteel that you can mod into anything you like.

My two 17 year old Sebenza's. One's in my pocket now.

It's just as tight as it was when brand new, and for the price of shipping I could get it made to look new again if I wanted.
I sent one from 1997 back a few years ago, and you could not tell it from a brand new knife after it came back.
I suspect they'll still be in great shape after I'm gone.

At pennies a day that is high value in my book.

I know it's stupid to compare folders to fixed blades, but I own an opinel #6, and I just don't feel the quality compared to the Mora.

Well I don't think anyone would argue with either of those choices:thumbup:

There are a lot of good knives at low prices that would rank very high in the performance per dollar range. For instance a Kershaw or Buck from Walmart might cost 1/10 of what a good Spyderco, Benchmade or ZT would cost, and 1/20 of what a good CRK or Strider would cost, but the more expensive knife will not perform 10 or 20 times as well, probably not even 5 or 10 times as well.

If you want to talk strictly edge retention, the Spyderco Manix 2 S110V would probably beat everything available, price considered or even price not considered.

Okay, maybe not best value. More like best knife you can get for $10.

Yes, best value, and inexpensive are very different.

You can edit your thread title if you want to. (not sure if you knew that)

Mora's are the best knives out there in the $10 price range you mention(IMO).
Glad you found one you really like:thumbup:

I picked up 2 SOG tridents at Walmart a couple years ago. I think they were 15 each on one of their Black Friday displays. Best knife I've found for the price.

I've never bought a knife for under $20. Least expensive knife I own currently was $55 (Esee Izula w/ "survival" kit). Great deal for the money.
