Ontario Rat 1 (folder) Mora Bushcraft Black, or Heavy Duty and SOG Seal Pup Elite (Fixed) Just my under $50 favs. there are plenty other good knives for that price point. My reasons for my selection is that you can buy both the Ontario RAT 1 for your EDC AND a Mora Heavy Duty for your woods bushcraft/hunting knife for under $50. Two excellent knives that can handle the majority of tasks, and I repeat, you can buy both together for $50 or less.

What he said.

Cold Steel Voyager knocks every other budget knife out of the water for only under 50 dollars it's really worth the money.

My 2nd vote would actually be the Kershaw Tremor, the one I have has been used for heavy duties and it just still goes strong....one time my friend was locked out of his truck and I handed him the Tremor to pry the back window open and there was no damage to the blade after he used it.

Ontario Rat 1 and 2 are good. I also have been really impressed with the Kabar Dozier folding hunter, really lite and seem to hold up very well. Of course there are the Opinel folders too.

Ontario knives pardue folders. Rock solid knife. Great ergos lots of variations to choose from

What kind of knife? A traditional folder or a modern folder? A traditional fixed blade of a modern fixed blade? A locking folder or a slip joint folder? An assisted opening, flipper, gravity, or two handed opener? What size blade? USA made, or overseas made?

How do you start a thread on a forum and then never respond to any of the questions? If you start a thread don't you *have any obligation to read and respond? Yes I'm a newbie and should probably keep my mouth shut, *but just my thoughts.

Probably got discouraged from 1/2 the posts being negative towards him. Also not everybody has as much free time as we do to respond to every post in a started thread. Though they are right. Every couple of days there is a new thread about "which knife <$50. Everybody was new here at some point and not everybody has been on other forums so they might not know how everything works or where to look for the info desired. This was the first forum I ever joined (well second, forgot about glockpro though i maybe have five 5 posts there and that was after I figured out how everything works here.) What sealed the deal of members getting sickk of this is when they don't even take the time to list their specifications and expect people to respond.

Here's some primo knives under $50 new.

Folders: Cold Steel Recon 1 , Hold Out 2 , any other of their lock back folders
Kershaw's with Sandvik or S30V Steel(I really like my Kersahw storm)
Buck Vantage Pro and Avid (Hard to find at the moment though)
GEC 99 (Generally around $50)
Leatherman Sidekick
Benchmade 551 556 $65 with a coupon code at some online stores and recommend either more than any other listed.
Check the exchange here when you can. If you don't mind buying used knives you can get some great deals. Or new or lnib for that matter.

Fixed: Cold Steel GI Tanto $19
Get a Becker
Spend a little over $50 and get a Becker
Look for a used Becker and get a Becker
Seriously get a Becker;)

Good luck choosing OP. There are lots of good blades under $50. Though more bad ones IMO. Would avoid SOG, CRKT,Junglee.

Cold Steel without a doubt in my book. There are plenty of CS models to be had for at or under $50. Just pick the size/weight/blade shape you prefer.

As many people have stated, it is a very broad topic. Don't be discouraged by anybody being rude to you. Everybody asks questions like this at some point of learning (including me).

Firstly, learn about knives in general. Learn the structure and features of fixed blade knives and do the same for folding/pocket knives. After you have done that, ask yourself what you'll be using it for. Will it be used for general cutting/opening packages and carrying with you everyday? Will it be used for tough cutting and general camp work? Will it be used to prepare food?
Once you are familiar with knife structure and certain features of the knife and you know what it will be used for, you'll be able to choose a knife that's best for your applications.
Also keep in mind that you'll want to have a bit of money for sharpening supplies.

For folding knives that are used for general cutting and EDC (everyday carry) I have personal experience with the Ontario Rat 2, Svord Mini Peasant, Victorinox Tinker, and the Opinel 7. I recommend all of them and they are all good knives, and yet they are all different and each of them have their pro's and con's.

It is very important to get a knife for your specific purpose. If you get a knife and use it for something that it is not built for, you run the risk of damaging the knife OR it may not perform well for what you are trying to use it for.

In short... do your research. The more you learn about knives, the easier it will be to know what you want and what will be best for you.

Hard to beat a Victorinox swiss army knife or Mora for the under $50 price point for using knives.

Too many Sissi's here that call other people rude if you only say where its about.

What is rude is that this topic is about nothing but people still go on with "recommendations". Its rude to ignore that there is something wrong. When you know a topic is started fromout the wrong pov? And just do like its ok? Makes no sense.

Just post because you can . . .

If you can find one a Benchmade Vex was an awesome knife for around $30

I know i have walked away from certain threads, because the op was being treated rudely.

It's nothing personal against the OP......this is just a frequent dead horse thread, and a little searching goes a long ways. The "best knife under $" threads just end up being a big, long list of every knife under that price, which IMO would be less than beneficial to someone with limited time and experience, as it would be pretty confusing to sort through the pile of attitudes and opinions.

Plus.....the OP tossed this thread out and then didn't even participate. He is watching the banter, but not interacting with his own topic in any valuable way.....that may not equate to trolling, but I my book is chumming. Toss it out and see what happens. Some individuals took time to give him quite a substantial reply.....so who is being rude ?
