I recently recieved a "gift certificate" (basically money I can spend on anything) of $50 from my Father. I could supplement it with my own money, but I thought it would be nice to use only the money I reiceived. So, what's the best knife, in your opinion, under (or about) $50?

Thanks for any and all responses!

I would have to suggest a Benchmade Ascent Series...anyone one in the family would be a great buy for under $50. I personally like BM845SBT, which has a large drop point blade, BT2, and combo edge.

All the knives in the world go round and round, round and round, round and round...DAMN, one of them took my wallet !!! :)

A Spyderco Native is a nice knife as is their Dragonfly version.

A Buck 110 is a classic at about $35 and you could doll it up a bit at Pete's Custom Shop with some BG42 steel and still be around $50. There is a link to Pete's at Buck

A Cold Steel Voyager is a nice knife too and they come in 3 sizes.

I am sure you will get more suggestions.

Good luck!

As much as I love my Native, I would say try out some of the other Spyderco lightweights as well like the Delica, Dragonfly, Calypso. These can be had under the $50 limit. Good steel, ergonomics and price.

I would also consider some of the knives from Columbia River along with BM and Spyderco. The 440V native is going to be hard to top for under 50, but you could pick up a Kiss and have a 20 or so left over.

I picked up a Gerber SLG 3.25 for ~$45 and I recommmend it: 3 1/4" ATS-34 blade, ergonomic handle with G-10 scales, titanium liner with integral locking bar, very light weight, dual thumb studs, and deep pocket clip. The fit between the locking bar and the blade tang is VERY tight. It actually takes a little bit of force to actually disengage the bar when closing the knife due to the friction.

The blade sliced through a corrugated cardboard box like butter when I first whipped it out. You can probably get it for around $50 if you look around online or in your local stores.

Outdoor Edge Impulse! It's looks, competes, and performs like $100 plus knives.

Spyderco Endura '98. Ooops, is that under $50, can't remember now?

Gerber E/Z out is a good knife for the money.

You can't go wrong with a Spyderco, however I'm carrying a CRKT/Kasper every day now, and it's a fine knife for the money. Yesterday I was whittling on an old Maple stick just to see how long before it would get dull, I ran out of stick before I ran out of edge, and that was just the edge out of the box. No complaints here.

There is no doubt in my mind that the CRKT Urban Shark is the best value for under $50. In fact you should be able to buy for $30. I and my son have been carrying one for about 2 months now. I am astonished by the value. I usually only purchase knives made in the USA but wanted to try one of Greg Lightfoot designs while waiting for my custom orders. Pick one up and you will be satisfied!

The Spyderco cricket and native are great knives for under 50. The Cold Steel SRK is also a great knife for a little over 50.

CRKT (I like the M-16), or that Wegner Jr. on sale is a good route...

If you can get a Wegner Jr. for under $50, I'd go for it! It is by far my favorite all purpose knife.
