Many of the knives suggested are very good. Here's my two cents:
My personal favorite under 50 bucks is the Benchmade Ascent. When I bought it I chose it over the Spyderco Endura simply because the Ascent fit my hand more comfortably. I have purchased the Endura since then, but I still carry the Ascent WAY more often.

I just got a Spyderco Lightweight Calypso Jr (plain edged) today and I think it might be my new favorite under your $50 limit. I bought mine for $43.00, and it think with the full flat-grind and VG 10 steel, you couldn't do better for the money.

If you have a local knife dealer around, I suggest you go to the store and look at all of the ones you're considering. Hold them in as many different hand postitions as you can think of, clip them to your pocket/waistband, grip them really tightly and see if any of them hurt your hand. For example, when I hold the Native tip down, with the spine forward, and sqeeze tight, my hand disengages the lock bar. Eveyone has different personal tastes and hand sizes so you might be different, but I don't want to carry something that might not be totally safe. I suggest you try as many as possible so you find what suits YOU the best. Good luck!

...Another vote for the Spyderco Native (Stainless).

Being a "Lefty", this is also my FAVORITE
"folder", as the clip can easily be moved to the CORRECT side of the knife!.

Buck 110 for overall utility is hard to beat in that price range.

Easier to carry (pocket or pocket/clip) might include the Buck Odyssey or some the the offerings from CRKT.

Despite my Chris Reeve and other "high end" examples, knives under $50, especially from great companies (i.e. Buck) are more useful because the fear of damage or loss factor is minimized or eliminated.

Well I like Case copperlock series, any of the numerous Spyderco's -the Native sounds like a good choice,I'm not really into liner locks so I won't recommend any knives with that mechanism. It's all a matter of personal prference once you go with a quality manufacturer.Really the best way to choose a knife is to go to a knife shop or show and handle all the various knives that fit your criteria and then you can make an educated choice.Chow;Ralph

I have nearly EVERY knife mentioned on this topic...and I'll tell you, Native is awesome utility knife, as is the Delica...I rec'mnd the Delica in full stainless...a little tougher...a little prettier. Native in full stainless is nice too, just more money.

Recently, some Rookies have been going pretty cheap; bigger than delica w/G10 grip, and beefier than Zytel...see what you can find.

Also, I like the BM 350 Mel Pardue...tough as hell, comes sharp as sin!

Great replies! Thanks to everyone. I think right now I'm gonna get either a Wegner Jr. or a Spydie of some kind. Any other suggestions?
