Best Knife Warranty?

Hey there!

In my search for a new knife, a big thing I consider is how much a company backs their product. I hope to never need to use a warranty service, but it's nice to have it if I need it. So here are my questions...

Which knife companies have the best warranties? Do you need to purchase the knife directly from them to use the warranty, or will they honor it if you got the knife from, say, Amazon or another seller?

Thanks!

I have had great experiences with Benchmade, in one instance, I sent them an email for a extra pocket clip and not only did they answer in a half hour, they sent me two clips and two sets of screws for them. I have heard the Esee, spyderco, strider, Zt, and Chris Reeve knives have great warranties, along with many others also.

To my knowledge..

1. ESEE
2. Busse/Swamprat/Scrapyard
3. Buck
4. Benchmade
5. Spyderco
many more I'm sure...

+1 for Benchmade and Strider. They both provide great warranties. I have also heard Emerson's warranty is top-notch although I haven't experienced it personally.

Buck is good. And sending your Buck in for the 'spa treatment' is absolutely fantastic.

All the manufacturers that maintain a subforum here have great warranty programs. Buck, Benchmade, Kabar, Spypderco, Cold Steel, to name a few. None require you to buy from them or 'register' it.

Buck has the best warranty, in my opinion.
Concerning Gerber's warranty:
I have a Gerber that was purchased back in the mid/late 80's.
The main problem with the knife is it will not hold an edge. Slicing warm butter along the top of the butter stick dulls the blade.
I contacted Gerber, to see about sending it in. I was told the knife was out of warranty, and "... there is nothing we can do to help you, have a nice day."

That knife was my first and is my last Gerber purchase. Based on that knife and their "warranty" (which is not worth the paper and ink used to print it) I don't trust Getber to make anything but junk. (Witness the 'BEAR GRYLLS' lineup for proof of Junk)

I read on a different forum that people had problems with Cold Steel's warranty because they did not purchase them from Cold Steel...that's not true?

.I'd say if you go by track record and how long they've been around, Buck. I think most companies mentioned have good warranties.

Busse, Swamp Rat, Scrap Yard, if its broke they fix it. The warranty encourages you to use your knives in extreme ways.

Benchmade 100% excellence.

Leatherman excellent for 25 years

ESEE is very good, but I think it's important to mention that they apparently only warranty blades, not handles. Still an excellent warranty, but in my book that puts them just a step behind Busse Knife Group and Buck.

I figured as such from Gerber. I have a few of their knives that I like, but it would cost me more to send them in if I needed to than I paid for the knives, so I didn't really worry about the warranty at the time of purchase.

Why do you think Buck is the best? I've been looking at some of their tactical USA made knives...

Emerson and Spyderco have been by far the best for me! The worst by far was Benchmade, and they will never see a dime of my money again..... Guess it all depends on individual experience, and what day you catch them on

Benchmade is great, and I've also had fantastic service/ support from Zero Tolerance, even deployed overseas.

Benchmade has been by far the best with me!
Spydie not bad.
Pro Tech very good!

Luckily I've never had to use warranty, though I'd like to send in my spyderco knives, except that they've been modified and likely won't be serviced.

There's 2 brands I like for their warranty though, busse and CRK.
Busse has a no questions asked policy, which shows they're confident about their knives. And crk, who encourages break down of your knife, where others say breaking down your knife will VOID warranty.

Funny thing, good knives don't even need warranty, yet they have the best.... go figure.

The only warranty service I have ever used was Busse and I could not have been happier with them. The knife they warrantied had been "modified" by the original owner to the point it wasn't close to the original configuration. The folks at Busse took great care of me:thumbup:
