Best knife?

This is a rather subjective thing, but if pressed, I would suggest that if you are looking for a LARGE folder that you could take-on a bear with, get yourself a REKAT Sifu. If you only need a "normal-sized" folder, get yourself a REKAT Carnivour Cub or one of the Pioneer series from REKAT.:).

Those are TOUGH folders, with G-10 scales, ATS-34 steel, and the tough "rolling-lock".

I will also recommend starting first with a price range in mind. Otherwise, you will end up looking for something you can't/won't want to afford.

Then, systematically narrow the criteria:

Lock Function:
Slipjoint (no lock)
Locking, two hand opening, two hand closing
Locking, one hand opening, two hand close (rear lock)
Locking, one hand opening and closing (front lock, liner lock, frame lock, compression lock, rolling lock, axis lock, etc)

If one-hand function, then decide:
Thumbstud
Hole (like Spyderco knives)
Thumbdisk (one of my favorites, very few of these made)

After that, the variants are so many, it will rely totally on your taste and percieved need). Steel, blade grind, scale materials, overall weight, clip carry, sheath carry.

I think the consensus on this forum is, there is NO one perfect knife for everything. That is why most of us carry more than one knife on a regular basis. Good luck.

All of the replies have been good advice and should be
used as a guide line to go by when looking for that
"best knife". The thing is you may have to buy a few
to get that one that is best for you. Happy hunting!

I think you've been given some great suggestions! If you want to shop for a good price and spend maybe $85.00?? I might look for a Spyderco Viele. I still think it is one of the best all-around EDC's.

Carries nicely, and darn near feels like a "custom" to me, although I'm certainly no expert on folders. Of course the great knives are there.., depending on what you want to spend...look around and have fun with it!

There is no best knife, Cannabish. the only person who can say what is the best knife is the one you choose based on your own ideas. Me, I see the Benchmade Emerson 975SBT as one of the best knives I've ever owned. I bought mine circa '95 and basically abused it in several ways. This was way before I became a knife knut. After about 3 years of carrying the thing around........I noticed that it needed sharpening. I realized that I had treated the thing so badly but it was still in high performance shape. After sharpening and lubes, it was ready for more abuse. Sadly, the Benchmade Emerson was dc'd after Emerson left the company. But, he now makes acomparable and some would say better model going by the name CQC7. Check out the emerson site for great pics and maybe pick out one for yourself. It'll be worth it

Ja Bro! Now you're talking about subject that I know something about! In my country, Jamaica, we have what you're looking for. It's a kind of knife called Rosta-Frei. This steel will put power in your pocket. It will put womans by your side and it is excellent for harvesting the herbs in the fields. Nice avatar BTW!;)

Some good suggestions here. Gotta go with the Rostafrei though if ya want the best.
