What are y'alls best knives for gifts? I know there are a lot of variables here, but what are the best knives you have gifted before?

Any type of Victorinox is a good choice. They're inexpensive, good quality, have numerous options, and they're not going to scare someone if they see it being used. Everyone knows about a Swiss Army Knife. My vote would be a Classic or Rambler for the keychain and an Alox Cadet, Alox Pioneer, Alox Farmer, Tinker series, Spartan, Camper, or a Climber for a bigger pocket carry knife.

Depends on who for and what their understanding of knives is. Got my father a Leatherman MUT last Father's Day. He's a gun nut, retired cop. That bastard loves it. Got me wondering how I'm gonna improve upon it next June.

i gave my male friends leatherman waves for gifts , and female friends SAKs.
i gave my family members something like Delica, Voyager, etc, something that i think they would use. last time i gave Zancudo to my little brother as his first knife.

For a non-knife person, a Victorinox Alox SAK of some kind (Cadet or Pioneer) makes a great gift that's not too 'knifey.' If they're into knives, well you'll just have to figure out their tastes and what they are missing.

Dragonfly2. Its a small Spydie with VG-10 and under $40. Maybe the best Spydie I've ever owned. I have given away over a dozen as gifts now. People dig 'em.

Any knife!
These were gifts for my groomsmen; a Buck 110 with their initials

I tend to pick specific knives for gifts based the same way I pick knives for myself- based on intended job, what the person likes, scary looking or good for NKP and so on. I have given several spyderco dragonfly's, a delica, a Boker nano, a griptilian (but he didnt like it so I'm trading it for a mini-grip for him, a Ka-Bar mk1. There isn't a specific knife, or even a specific type of knife I usually give as a gift, I've given more spyderco dragonfly's than anything else.

SAKs. I'm giving Vic Campers, Waiters, and Bantams as Christmas gifts this year.

The Waiters and Bantams can be had for $10-$15 each.

Depends on the recipient. And is also worth remembering that not everyone is as enlightened as us when it comes to sharp stuff. Some folks will look at a gifted knife or MT and think you are crazy. So you have to know your target.

It depends on the person's age, job, blade-length restrictions in his/her state, color preferences, contemporary vs traditional, whether for her vs him, price, match blade type to personality.
I might suggest this new thread which might have some decent hints for you.

Knives that I've purchased in the past for gifts? Quite a few, but most of these are for male relatives, good friends.

Depends on the person and the occasion. I have given some young men Spydercos (Delica, dragonfly, etc) for graduation and they have always loved them. Gave my best friend a custom fixed blade for his 50th and it brought him to tears.

My go to knives for gifts are Bokers Plus. They already come in a nice Boker Plus box so with a fancy gift wraps you are good to go. I particularly like the collaboration knives Marsh Mini Vanquish, Burnley Kwaiken, and Anso Albatross folder.

If you're a guy and use locking folders, I give you an Opinel along with a dare. "Break it under hard use and then give me a call." The only calls I get are along the lines of, "I can't kill this thing."

If you're a guy and don't carry a knife, you get a Leatherman Micra with the advice to carry it in your pocket for a month.

I've given my wife and daughter SAKs.
