Best knives for my needs?

Yeah I'm looking for something pretty light and versatile, no need to chop wood. I already have a huntsman which I'm bringing but I'd like to have something that's comfortable in my pocket and I can use for cooking, whittling, camp chores etc.

I would say a Military in S30V looks to fit right into your needs. :)

I would carry a SAK of some sort, a Spyderco Endura (it will definitely suit your needs, not rust easily, and similar in size to your 110, but lighter), a folding saw (Kershaw makes a good one), and a small light hatchet.

Tell you what Paka.....spend the $150 on another blade you are interested in. PM me a good address for you and I will drop an Endura in the mail. I probably have half a dozen of them kicking around in drawers.

Man you're too kind, I'd feel bad takin it for free. Thanks for the offer though! Next to me I'm in town I'll check and see if they have any enduras in stock. Thanks gents

No problem....let me know if you change your mind, the offer will stand. I buy them as work tools, so I end up going through lots of them.

Welcome to BladeForums. Way to start your New Year...have a safe adventure.

tinman207: That was really cool of you, offering up one of your Endura's, to Paka.:thumbup:

+1 for abbydaddy's lone wolf suggestion. Cheap and great with N680.

Another one with N680 is the Griptilian H2O...orange handle too so you won't lose it, and a robust blade that's good for a bit of everything. It's designed for saltwater exposure and wet habitats in general. Strong lock, and comfortable in the pocket too. I don't have much experience with other knives in the woods since I am mostly a machete guy, but I sure like the look of the Svord outdoor and trapper fixed blades (not stainless though). If you have a good primary folder, I can suggest at least one other big, el cheapo fixed blade that can be used as a backup...a Remmington FAST 5" hunting knife with the blaze orange handle. I am sure this option won't be popular, but I've had it strapped to my field pack for years in rain, sweat, swamp water, etc and it hasn't rusted, and it takes a decent edge for about $25 or less. Could be a good rough use/backup/nasty task knife.

My Griptilian H2O

The FAST (blurry but you get the idea...never been cleaned and I never dry it off)

For Spydercos, I'd throw out the Native5 or Manix2 Lightweights (Native for a bit smaller, Manix for something a bit larger). Some people don't like the FRN, but it's strong, really light, much cheaper, and the texturing actually makes it really grippy. Both also offer premium steels (S35VN and S110V respectively) at very reasonable prices. You can get a Manix2 cheaper with BD-1 as well, which isn't as premium a steel, but very tough and easy to sharpen.

Fallkniven S1, F1, H1 are good knives in VG10, or upgrade to 3G steel which is phenomenal stuff

An Endura 4 for two weeks in the wild?

Wanna impress your buddies on the trip? Pack a good SAK for quick access, a DPx HEST 2.0 folder in your pocket, a good 4.5-7" Nordic leuku (if you can, combine it with a puukko) on your belt and a rigger's hatchet or good bolo on your pack. They'll be borrowing your gear a lot.

That's quite a setup.....are you able to procure a SAK, DPx HEST 2.0, 7" Nordic leuku, and a rigger's hatchet for under $150?

Becker bk15 or 16 would be good depending on what blade design you prefer. Mora is really hard to argue with, it's hard not to have one as back up or primary for the price and weight. And don't forget the sak, or multi tool. Just my$0.02

Uh yeah, you got me on that one. I just read his opening post and didn't know what his budget or situation was. It sounded like he could be starting from scratch. Now that I read his later posts I see this.

Maybe he can buy one at a time. :)

Dang.........I was hoping you had an epic hookup.

for a folder another 110 :D, serious note id look towards a Benchmade Griptilian or as you suggested an Endura.

as for Fixed blade, Ive always liked the Becker BK9 for camping, other amazing options would be Esee 5 and cm6
