Some models come to mind that I've seen and appear to look good.

BM Mini-Pika
Kabar Dozier
Kershaw Storm
SAK's

What would you guys say are the best nes?

Oh, and since I know you guys are going to mention them, might as well ask this too. I see Opinels and Mora's mentioned a lot but have no clue about what they are aside from some google image searches I did. So maybe some of you can fill me in here. :)

Don't forget Byrd. Scads of options under $25, and the range is only increasing.

go to www.ragweedforge.com for all the info you ever wanted on Mora / Opinel type knives.

Other than that you named the knives that I thought of off the top of my head.

Maybe the BM Bemchmite 2. $22 and change + shipping from NGK. Very nice little knife, if that is what you are looking for.

My personal pick would be the Byrds, Byrd Meadowlark and Caracara in particular.

I don't know what to tell you about the Opinel and Moras that a pic wouldn't say better? Opinel come in SS and Carbonsteel. My experience with the SS models have been horrible (the steel was rubbery and I could never get it sharp), my experience with the carbonsteel models have been excellent (well they rust if you don't take care). The Moras are simple fixed blades of scandinavian type.

Yep, Opinel and ny of the Moras.
Douk-douks are also quite nice, and very cheap.

I am extremely pleased with the quality and fit and finish of my Mini Pika. It has become one of my favorite EDC knives because of its light weight, slim profile, and low-ride clip. I like the 440C steel, and the back lock, while a bit stiff, locks up very solidly with virtually no blade play. Also, unlike lower-end knives from some other companies, BM's Red Class is covered by the same warranty and service as every other BM, which is nice. In my opinion, it's one of the best values around, and competes favorably with many knives costing more.

Yep, Mini-Pika is my next buy. Seeing it in real life confirmed my suspicion that it'd make a great EDC. For 20$ too it seems rather hard to beat.

For mora's / opinels I just wanted a little background info on em. Like mora's seem to be made by multiple companies, which has me confused. Is mora a brand? A knife style? What makes these knives so much better than other 20$ and less knives and so on. Why, in a foruma ll about specific brands like benchmade and spyderco, are these held in such high esteem.

Another vote for the Byrds. I have an Opinel I like quite a lot as well. :D

The byrd line does look rather quality for the price. With how much I like my Delica I might pick up a Cara Cara or something.

Checked out that page on the Mora and it seemed to answer most my questions. I like their style, might have to order a couple.

Add the CRKT Neck PECK to the list. It's been discontinued, but you should still be able to find one on the 'net.

Camillus EDC. AUS8 steel and frame lock. Nice knife. All for 24.95 + shipping.

get both the opienel n a mora
kershaw chive/ maybe a leek if you get a great deal
crkt m16 (try one of the smaller models or a used one)
SAK-i dont no the new models so look around-THIS IS YOUR BEST VALUE !!!!!!!!

for a tad more you could get the becker necker which would blow most of the other knives out of the water

shop around n look for what u lik

for under $25 there are actually several to choose from. aside from what has been mentioned don't forget to hang around in the trade/sale forum i've seen some screaming deals in there. look for kershaws, they tend to go for less but are a good value, crkt's-try and get at least aus 4 steel better if aus 6 or 8. you can often get a good price on buck knives also. speaking of good deals keep an eye on the local wally world, shoot i'll even ask the counter guy if they have any markdowns or returns, it never hurts to ask. just look around and you'd be surprised what you can find. later, ahgar

I would choose the Kershaw Storm. The Sandvic steel is very good somewhat better than 440C in edge holding. Plus it is a framelock! Just my opinion. thanks.

You get a huge bang for the buck with the Byrds. The F&F is excellent. No vertical play on any of my Byrd lockbacks. The Kabar Doziers would be my next choice.

Ka-Bar Doziers have been the best under 25 dollar folders I"ve ever had. I only have one Byrd, the Harrier, which I got for 10 bucks and there is nothing wrong with that blade either. The Moras also always get the good reviews for small fixed blade. Try the carbon and the sankvik.

I don't like the Opinels, but that's not a shared opinion. They are extremely good slicers, but I've found them to be flimsy for an EDC.

Somebody also mentioned the Cold Steel Bushman for a big blade. I"ve got one in my BOB and there's nothing not to like for 20 bucks. I'd also suggest, if you can find a Shrade Sharpfinger in a hardward store for 20 bucks is a great fixed blade. If you want a big blade, check out tramotina machetes, I've seen them for 5 bucks at gun shows.
