Hey there, what is the best father's day knife for less than $80?

I want something like a nice gentleman's folder that is sheeple approved.

If you've got a suggestion and wouldn't mind posting a link it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I like those.

Is there any place that sells the Spyderco Kopa for around 80? I like the giraffe bone or the stacked wood handles.

Unless you stumble upon a great deal that no one else is interested in, or find a mint user knife. I would not hold my breath for an $80 Kopa. They are all at least $110 and up.

you could get a nice traditional knife, i like the case swayback jack personally.

I agree, there are some really beautiful knives available (slip joints) that will come in a great steel, and fit into the budget you are working with. ;)

I think the best 'buy' for $80 is our own Blade Forum 'Production - Dealer' - Kershawguy's blemished Kershaw 1725SG2 JYDII in SG2 & Titanium - $79 delivered (US). Never to be mistaken for a proper 'gent's knife', it is a keeper. Flipper opened - Ti framelock. The blemish is unequal, but no problem operationally. Mine came as purdy and as sharp as my 'as new in box' production version I bought a year ago - for a lot more moola, too. That 'blem' gets EDC a lot. I take the clips off all of my knives - don't own any 'Tacticool'. The JYDII is a bit big, it's on the far right below:

L-R above: Buck 172 Mayo TNT; Benchmade 635BK Mini-Skirmish; BM 630 Skirmish; BM 760BK L-Ti Lum; and Kershaw 1725SG2 JYDII in SG2 & Ti. The Buck was discontinued last fall, the BM Skirmish's were dropped two years ago - as was the Kershaw (Limited run!). Only the BM 760BK L-Ti is still available. They are all Ti framelocks with super steels - the Kershaw's steel, 'Super Gold 2', probably being the best. 'Good' prices for the discontinued knives was $200+ via the web - when they were available - and some were more.

Another great buy in a current production knife - a flipper/thumb hole opened S30V blade the same size as the Buck 172 above, is the Buck 347 Vantage Pro - with CNC carved G10 scales. MSRP is $95 - expect $60-$70 price - Bass Pro had them for $50! Below you'll see mine above my Buck 172:

Great pocket knives - I'd be tickled with either!

Stainz

I think the Buck Vantage Pro show above by Stainz is one of the very best values out there right now. It features S30V, contoured G10 scales, linerlock, flipper or Mayo style hole. It also comes in two sizes. The 3 inch blade Stainz showed you and a smaller version with 2.5 inch blade. The best news is these guys are very cost effecient and well under your price limit.

Hi GA/\/\/\/\A -

In the exchange, kershawguy has brand new Kershaw blems, for instance, a CPM D2 composite Leek, a very nice knife, sells for $38 delivered.

He has many more that I am sure ol' dad would love to have.

Almost any nice Case or Buck pocket pattern will be appreciated and well under your price range as well.

Good luck!

best regards -

My dad isn't much of a knife guy but I think he would appreciate one for daily utility tasks. I think I'm going to get him a Spyderco Cat. It's classy, very nonthreatening in a handy size with s30v blade steel and carbon fiber at a great price.

A spyderco Caly 3 is a great EDC knife and is smaller to not scare the masses yet feels much bigger with the choil. The VG10 model should be right around your budget and the carbon fiber and ZDP189 core with 420 outer clad steel (san mai) which looks really fancy can be had for $107. Its more than your budget but a fantastic and great looking knife.

The Vantage pro is also a great knife for 50 bucks. A kershaw OD1 is a neat knife too and you can check it out first at Walmart for $40.

The Cat was discontinued a little while ago. I've looked for one, but have not had any luck. Not sure if they are on sale anywhere anymore.

All Pops are different. My Dad likes a very thin, small folder these days. One that fits deep in the pocket and weighs very little.

ive got a blue FFG delica in my knife box that im saving for my dads fathers day present...i think he should like it alright

+1 on the Buck Vantage Pro. To be honest you can't beat the s30v and G10 for under $60.

I was actually going to link an ebay link for a Kopa that was 80 + shipping, but I was in a hurry. Here it is:

The guy has 4 in stock, all brand new. Auction ends in 21 days or so.

EDIT: Check ebay for spyderco kopa and sort by BIN. Link removed.

Also, Microsoft live.com cashback is 8% currently so it's really 73.60 + shipping after cashback savings.

If you don't know how to use live cashback, basically you sign up for free on live.com for a cashback account. Then you go to live.com and put in a search term that generates an ebay hit. You don't have to type in "spyderco kopa" in the live.com search box. The idea is just to get a link that directs you to ebay with a cashback discount. Most people type in "xbox 360" because that almost always generates a hit. This is what I use when I shop on ebay. Anyway, type in "xbox 360" and click on the link that will take you to ebay. You'll notice gold coin icon for live.com cashback. Once in ebay, you just type in what you're really looking to buy, which is spyderco kopa in this case. Then sort the results by "buy it now" only since cashback only works for buy it now. Then buy the thing. You can always be sure you get cashback as long as you have that gold coin icon at the top of your auction. After that, you just wait a few weeks, sometimes only a few days, and you get your savings.

It sounds more difficult than it is when I type the instructions, but it's really simple in practice.

8% is generic. If you're lucky and this is rare, live has had cashback up to 25%.

poor_fish has 3 on eBay right now for under $50, shipped. These are the 3-1/4" blades.

knifestore has the 2-5/8" for about the same price.
