My dad is a traditional man and altough he is not into knives, he would appreciate traditional knives with wooden handles, not too big and with a functional blade. Such knives are also well accepted here. An Opinel with special wooden handle would be great for him. A gentleman folder for daily light to medium tasks. A traditional Case or Buck would be good too.
I like the idea of a traditional knife. A Case Toothpick in red jigged bone is about half what you're looking to spend. A very classy knife, with a lot of options for the handle material. 3" closed and about an ounce in weight.
