Best Lighter??

All of these are a compromise and the best thing is to KISS (Keep it simple, stupid :D )

I had a Windmill and is that one fussy puppy for gas. Zippos dry out but work with almost anything flamable. There is a third party that makes a tank for a zippo which pretty much does away with the problem of evaporation.

Personally I would go for a Zippo with tank over a butane lighter.

I like my new brunton firelight. windproof, water resistant torch lighter with mirror in the cap (great for lighting cigars!) and an LED in the base.

Seems durable and supposed to be good for many thousands of ignitions, and not too spendy.

Got it at TAD.

Zippo also has there own extra tank that also holds 2 extra flints which I found here .

I have had good luck with a Windmill lighter, but I live in Florida and am at sea level. I'm still the bigger fan of a FireSteel, I had found nothing more reliable or easier to use, or as much fun. Maybe a bic lighter is easier. Dont forget about strike-any-where matches.

Does anyone know if you cn buy a Zippo with a 'tank' built into it instead of cotton, you open a cap on the zippo and fill it up like a car, so doing away with evaporation probs?

yes you can, thats what I was talking about. It inderts into the Zippo to replace the cotton or whatever it is. They looked cool but were expensive here in Japan, by the time I gor enough spare cash to get one they didnt sell them anymore.

It might be a nice project if someone was inclined. I guess 32g brassh sheet, soldered would probably do it. It would take time but its better than being dragged around the shops by your other half lol

Caine, could you tell me more about the Brunton Helios, advantages & disadvantages? Thanks! Have always liked that butane lighter.

I've owned a KGM Vector Gear lighter for some time now. Works great at high altitudes.
