There certainly are some quality people, with a lot of knowledge on these boards. I'd rather learn from people like Sal, Thomas W., Phil Wilson, Ed. S., and all the others that give their time to listen, answer, and teach us.
That means much more to me than somebody shilling their wares.
There are also guys like STR, and some of the other knifemakers that I seek out posts from due to the knowledge shared by them without any hint of arrogance, self promotion or hubris.
We're pretty fortunate.
And reference Thomas W. . He can bite if approached foolishly. He will tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear.
Approach with caution though if you're in a silly mood.

Show respect and you will get it in return and find out not only is he really good at his job, but he has a passion for it like the great ones ( Sal comes to mind there too).
40 years of knife collecting, selling, even making a few and if I can't learn at least 5 new things a day here I'm just not paying attention.
