Best machete in your opinion.

Jeff and Mike agree with you! :p

I remember Jeff saying when they came out with the Junglas admitting that they made it mostly 'cause folks wouldn't shut up until they did. :D

the junglas looks cool though and the handle is the best in esee's line up for me. but i prefer function over form so this one is a goner soon.

I think it would do better with a wood or poly handle. Micarta is just too damn heavy for that knife to chop well. It'll do a lot of tasks well enough, but it's no machete. :D

Fiddleback for sure. Ergonomics are spot on, they have pointy tips for drilling and poking, and they have nice long sharpenable bevels (convex ground as well).

And they actually come sharp! What a freakin concept, right?!

The best machete would be if Andy Roy would get some blanks from Ontario. His handles, a convex edge, and a pointed tip, oh yeah!

Ontario doesn't do tapered blanks though. ;)

Yeah, I'm just expressing a fantasy. I recently got the Bark River machete and a Fiddleback 14". I wish I could have the best of both, Andy's handle with the 1095 Bark River convex edge.
I even think that Andy could make a better handle out of the Ontario than Bark River. BR's mod is very good, but I like a bit thicker handle. Again, I'm just expressing a fantasy. I mean, how expensive can we make a machete?

I don't have a lot of machete experience and only have two of them. The Cold Steel Mag. Kukri sure chops like a demon after some major edge work. I think the grinder at the factory was drunk and blind.

I almost went for it a few times, but the weight turned me off.

i thought about sending it to one of our custom knife makers and have the handle skeletonized like the current beckers now to move the balance forward but then i realized it's crazy to throw more money into it when an ontario or cs kukri is already balanced just the way i like it.

I like my Bark River Knives: Custom Machete, which is a significantly updated Ontario, and my Blind Horse machete. Both are 14" machetes.

Around 12" is the bare minimum I usually consider effective in a chopping machete. My preference is 16"-24" depending on the severity of the task but when ease of carry becomes a bigger issue I'll go shorter.

I love my Condor "GOLOK" it's perfect for "Me"...I also like my Condor Parang...but I favor the Golok a little more-

the condor line is killer for the price but the golok's blade was just way to thick. it needs to be really thinned out but I still like it. the parang imo is a much better chopper/machete and I like the handle ergo's better. I love the bark river golok though. that thing is crazy light and bites super deep.

The problem for me with the thicker models is that they sometimes have a very obtuse edge applied that needs thinning for performance to really shine. I'll likely start making the usual culprits "Special Grade" items and thin the edges in-house.

Which Corneta? Old or new? The answer to both is yes, but they're by different manufacturers. The vintage ones were made by Imacasa and "pre-Imacasa" when the firm was owned by Gebruder Weyersberg. The bugle was the Weyersberg mark and they became known by it since the locals had a comparatively difficult time pronouncing/remembering the German name. The present ones are made by Invermec, the same company that produces Gavilan and Incolma.
