Best Made Co? Anyone need a $500 axe?

Or perhaps ultra-violet? It's the new sexy colortheme coming in 2010!

But seriously though, I was expecting some sort of ultra-tactical hawk with inderstructable shaft and things like that but... They look like basic axes with fancy paintjob.

The paint isn't even fancy.

This is for the chic "I've got too much money and want to make visitors to my Manhattan condo think I'm an outdoor adventurer" crowd.

I hope they go bankrupt... oh they can't, since the axes propably costed them $20 each.

They have a contact form. Maybe I should e-mail them asking what makes their axe any better than my $30 True Temper axe from Lowes. What do you think?

Ummm yes. Please do. And post their reply. ;)

In my area I was able to pick up a vintage circa 1890's forged Plumb axe for $15. :P

Ask them lots of technical questions, like grind, steel etc to see if they know their business. I might do that myself too.

edit: where on earth IS the contact form? :O
edit2: nevermind, it's at the shop

Ritey, here is what I sent:

Hi!

I browsed your axe catalog and I have some questions I'd like to ask if that's allright with you?

1. Certainly for the price you want from your axes you also have guarantee? How long is it or lifetime? What does the guarantee cover?

2. What wood do you use in your shafts?

3. What steel do you use in your axeheads, what is the grind and what about hardening?

4. Is there any video demostrations of your axes? I would like to see how well they perform in the field.

5. What makes your axes better than standard ones if we count out the handmade factor?

Thank you. Waiting eagerly for your answer.

Regards,
*****

for 500 beans the wood had better be from Noah's ark.

BTW.I have a 60 year old double bit axe in my barn I'm going to cover in shiny sprinkles and maybe a ribbon.Starting bid is 700.00$ US.To save time You can send me the money/diamonds/gold/goats directly to me.PM for details

If I get an answer I'm going to ask some ridiculous made up technical question that doesn't have a real answer, just to see how they reply.

I first posted this because yes, the prices are absurd, but let's not push it by making up stupid crap to ask them. Let's see what their answers are to real questions, eh? FWIW, the handles are made of hickory. I'd like to see more info about the heads, though.

Maybe someone should ask if they sell one without the paint, and without the premium price tag. :)

This must be a government plot to identify all the dumb rich people for some nefarious plan.

I wonder how many they sell in a year???

Mystified,

troy

I grabbed about 5 axes this summer for a total of 25 bucks, most are as good or better than these $500.00 things, Hey, I'm rich ;-))

R

paint the handles in some frou-frou color and put some touchy slogan on it.......bam, you will be rich.

What is even better, and had me laughing...................................you can buy an artsy photo of on of their axes for $300, and then hang it up over your lavender and purple ax that cost you $500.

The photo is the biggest joke about it... It's just a photo.
Im more and more thinking this is just some practical prank to rip off stupid people with too much money.

No reply from them either yet. I'll keep reporting.
