"Best" Microtech Folder

I'm torn between the DOC flipper, the Whaleshark, and the select fire.

Of these, I have the DOC and Select Fire.

DOC has the best features of MicroTech and Strider. It becomes smooth after a hundred open / close cycles. I can even open it via thumb studs alone. It's heavy though at over 7 ounces due to a big chunk of blade. In addition to black, you can also get them in bright colors like tan, red, green and blue. Satin blades really show off the blade shape although stonewashed and bead blasted also to some extent. If you search around you have quite a few choices in blade steel as well: Elmax, 154CM and S30V.

Select Fire is over an ounce lighter, mostly in S35VN and the blade quarter of an inch shorter. It has a long handle but feels comfortable. Mine are easy to open and close one-handed.

Between the two I prefer DOC.

I really like my Socom Elite. Very light with a big 4" blade of S35VN. The MT I use most often is my all-black Mini Matrix with a 3" blade of ATS-34. Very light and a great flipper.

The one issue on most MicroTech folders is the proprietary screws on many of them.

MT Socom Elite is definitely one of MT's best offerings. You should check them out if you haven't. But out of those, I've only handled the Whaleshark and DOC and I prefer the DOC. It has a much better feel and the unique grind gives it more character.

I have to say for me the Socom Elite . It is a big knife but its light enough with a super lock up. My current one has S35VN which I happen to like a lot. Whale Shark did not do it for me and I sold it. The DOC is a nice blade but I find it a bit on the clunky big side. Well made but it is to much for EDC . LLC is also a sweet blade as well. They have had a lot of nice offerings over the years. Some very hard to find and resale is through the roof. Great if you got them new bad if you didn't.

Microtech Delta.
Seriously, it's kicked some impressive knives out of my pocket up to and including:
zt0560cbcf
socom D/A
Lion spy
spyderco manix XL s90v
para 2 sprints
ultratech
ontario xm-1
0550

Socom Delta / elite......

Both of which when held have a certain "Magic"... I swear, they're machined flawlessly, there is something honestly, magical about it. No wasted handle space, the blade while being 4" seems smaller somehow because the grip just inspires confidence...... There isn't a less awkward feeling 4" knife if you have smaller hands than the microtech's and if your hands are larger, it's just pure magic.... a fine choice.

The DOC is a cool folder, but it has to be a SOCOM Delta as the Elite is tip down carry only while the Delta is tip up. The only way to carry a tactical folding blade.

My current Grail Knife is the Blue DOC. It looks sweet and all the vids I have seen on it really make it look tough!

i love my doc. the grind on the blade with a satin finish is downright beautiful. my only complaint is that it is a tad heavy and mine came with 154cm steel. but other than that it is a wicked cool knife that flips great.

DOC. Great knife I bought one and a week later bought another. Strider/Microtech how can you go wrong..
