Well I have recently taken a liking to the marfione lineup released at blade show 2015, and it has caused me to further research some of there past knives. Pros and cons of the new Sigil (I like that belt clip), the Starlord (father/son colab, the size of the blade is appealing), and the past full size Matrix and DOC. Opinions, experiences, and EDC use please. I have read the recurve on the Starlord makes it less practical and harder to maintain/sharpen?

The proprietary hardware makes them near impossible to work on, should something go wrong and their repair department might never send your Knife back. Read some horror stories in the gbu forum. Best of luck.

Thank you for your input, the looks of the knives look great, and I heard there is a tool that can be used to take the screws down. This is the type of response I need honestly, anyone else have input please let me know.

You can buy a bit to take them apart. I really like the looks of the sigil but never held one. I had a doc and it was really cool but to big for me to carry so I sold it. I have a socom delta that I really like, it's long but slimmer then the doc so carries better. Out of all the stuff he has out right now I'd get the sigil. Or another socom

Proprietary might not be good for repair purposes, but in a custom knife, isn't proprietary just that much more customized work to add to the uniqueness of the knife?

They put those triangle screws on the productions as well. Just change the sizes every so often.
Buy what makes you happy, odds are your Knife wont have any problems.

I've owned a few Microtechs (DOC, SOCOM Delta, Ultratech, etc.) and eventually sold all of them.

The SOCOM Delta was definitely my favorite. Nice slim carry and a super smooth pivot. The downside was that the detent was very weak out of the box, so the knife could swing open too easily. Never really had an issue with it but the weak pivot was a real downer on an otherwise great knife. I tried to send it in to Microtech for repair. Dealing with their warranty department was a chore. Not to mention the fact that the turn around time is reportedly an extremely long wait. I opted to sell the knife.

The proprietary hardware isn't a huge issue in my opinion but as far as I know Microtech themselves don't offer any tools to breakdown their knives. All the ones I've seen are custom made tools and Microtech doesn't condone breaking down their knives anyway. Tat wouldn't be such an issue if Microtech's warranty service wasn't sub-par.

Then you have Tony Marfione, never met the guy, but the various interviews I've seen with him just give me that "used-car salesman" vibe.

So all that being said, what flipper EDC knives do you recommend or prefer?

My edc is a manual DOC, and I like it a lot! My next knife will be an automatic version to mix things up. Just my 2¢
