I was told either a Ka Bar or ATAK knife by a Navy SEAL.

My cousin who was in the UK forces swears by a fairborn Sykes knife and a US AIR force issue knife (Camillus?)

If I were in the forces, I would go for the D2 Ka Bar!

It is a very much underated knife.

According to my "sources", the Ka-bar rules. They have also come out with a real nice commemorative series recently. Check out the knife rags.

I once got the answer....

Spyderco Endura, serrated.

Sharp, inexpensive.

Personnel that go about the everyday business of soldiering have their favorite tools that work for them during FTEs (Field Training Exercises.) Here is where guys have their gear with them until lost or stolen. Some decent steel can be seen in this catagory.

Special Forces also have their favorites and quality steel can be seen here as well, but many times gear doesn't make it back from a mission as it is either lost or jettisoned. For this reason, a guy who has a $300 fixed blade, may bring an issued or cheaper substitute when the likelihood of it being history is present.

In consideration of the above, it could be misleading to consider what is used on Ops by SF. Various knife makers with commercial availability have had contracts for knives used by SF.

An everyday soldier may need a good knife for thirty years. A SEAL may need a knife for thirty minutes.

The Fallkniven line-up is getting a lot of respect. The F-1 and S-1 have recently been approved for some US military pilots. I know several members of local units who have the WM-1 strapped to their gear for utility work.

Er is the Endura a fixed blade?

I'm a Navy pilot and carry a Fallkniven F1 for survival use. I've just heard that the Navy approved both the F1 and S1. I have an A1 as well, but it is too large to fit into my vest. I'd carry that if it would fit.
