I just widdled through my second LMF rod last month and have had a couple other generics, but decided to order an Adventurer from Bestglide. I stripped the coating and found it to be useless, but I was using it incorrectly. It takes a different technique than the LMF. You can slowly scrape down the entire rod with the V shape striker removing material and then with one deliberate and slightly faster stroke ignite the pile of shavings. More magnesium???? Its a winner. For "throwing" an accurate spark I think the LMF is better, I use it to light my gas ranges routinely first time every time. This Adventurer works better on a tinder pile. Cheaper than LMF too. So far I'm getting even wear down the entire surface. Bestglide claims to have taken the NATO issue and improved on it, they say its the best mischstick. So far, I can't argue.
Hu huh, I said mischstick.
