Best movies ever

Ronin had a great car chase! Better than To Live & Die in LA or The Bourne Supremacy. Speaking from experience, that is the most realistic chase scene I've ever seen.

What experience? Most car chase I see are helicopter...radio...pittman maneuver...perp on ground getting hand cuffed.

If I want reality I'll watch the news. (boring)

Entertainment Ill watch movies. And the most realistic movie chase has to be Blues Brothers.;)

Paul

I have just seen Gone in 60 seconds (70's version) and I must say it has absolutely best car chase ever.
(Thunerdbolt with Jackie Chan has good one too, but not nearly as good as Halicki's)

Way off topic from "favorite movies", but since you asked. . .

In a former life (well over a decade past), my associates included bikers, gang members, and hill folk. Actual "chases" didn't happen too often, and when they did they generally weren't that dramatic (evading from the Highway Patrol generally entailed finding a quick hiding place rather than high speed pursuit . . . can't outrun a radio, and they tend to get pissed when you run, so it's generally best just to pull over, be polite, and take the ticket). Chases involving others were rare, and I'm not at liberty to discuss the details. The nearest hospital was well over 30 miles away, and the local volunteer ambulance squad was less than reliable, so when someone needed to get to the ER in a hurry (internal hemorhaging, gunshot wounds, etc.), that'd involve speeds exceeding 120 on the freeway. Far more often it was just recreational stuff like jumping RR tracks, driving through cornfields/hedges/woods (with a sedan, not a 4X4), and just zipping around the back roads -- many of which were unpaved (the hill folk are fond of using their emergency brake for cornering). The population density in that region of upstate NY was such that the roads (even the highways) were nearly empty. Such driving was kept to a minimum in the towns and cities, but -- within limitations -- it was possible. Here in Tidewater, such driving is impossible. Far too many other vehicles on the road, nearly everyone has a cellphone pasted to their ear, many seem to be under the influence of drugs (prescription pills or street drugs), and usually no shoulder or breakdown lane. You don't drive here . . . you "commute.":grumpy:

High speed evasive driving requires lots of practice, and is incredibly hard on vehicles -- especially tires and brakes. Jumps can ruin the suspension. 180s can wear your front tires down to the steel belts and throw off the front alignment badly. If you don't practice, maintain your vehicle, or use common sense, you're at high risk of getting in an accident. Needless to say, if you're under the influence of alcohol or other substances, the risk of having an accident increases significantly. Such driving should NEVER be attempted in a populated area, as that would constitute reckless endangerment of others.

Okay, now it's your turn to berate me for what a horrible person I was for violating the vehicle & traffic code many, many years ago.:jerkit:

I've heard it's excellent (the remake sucked), but it's impossible to find on DVD. Charlie Varrick was another car chase film from the 70s that's worth a look.

Five pages and no one listed Band of Brothers. Maybe it not listed because it’s an HBO mini-series.

I recently had a chance to watch the entire thing and was very impressed!

Tough Guys Don't Dance -- quite possibly one of the 10 greatest films ever made.

Masters of Menace -- undoubtedly the best biker film ever made -- impossible to get on DVD for some reason.

Phil the Alien -- a new release -- just saw it the other day and laughed my ass off.

Most great movies were mentioned, such as Braveheart.

On your list of very good, maybe great movies put "Babette's Feast", and Kirk douglas in "Ace in the Hole".

for me the greatest movie ever made is "Cool Hand Luke"

Saw the original 70's Gone in 60 Seconds in first run.... Oh God I'm old... anyway, I was utterly awed by the stunt driving. But yes, Ronin impressed me as the most "realistic" driving I've seen in an action movie. I put realistic in quotes because anyone really driving that way would probably go about 50 yards and crash.

The best movie ever was Tremors. Then perhaps Robocop. Midnight Run is a close third. I realize that most people with a "critical faculty" will probably "retch" at my "taste" in movies, but I don't "care."

at the opposite end of the spectrum, a movie called "on the beach" it's an oldie, black and white but a good movie. later, ahgar
