Best Multi tool/plier?

IMO, the sog is you're best bet. The powerlock has all the interior tools that anybody has, and the compound leverage gear system results in power like a much larger plier would have. The gears also allow you to open the plier as if it were a butterfly knife. All in all the best idea and the best design, it won't let you down.

I have had a Leatherman Super Tool For several years and it has served me well. I realize that there may be models that are somewhat more technologically advanced or have more bells and whistles but the Super tool meets the challenge when you look at the true day to day function that you want from a multi-tool. To close let me say that any Leatherman will serve you well.

As mentioned in some earlier posts, SOG makes some TOUGH multitools and IMHO, the Powerlock is the TOUGHEST--bar none. ;) My SOG is the Powerlock version with the Titanium Nitride coating and I haven't had any problems with rust, scratches, etc.. (If you decide on a Powerlock, get the TiNi!!!)

I've had some Leathermans(PST, SuperTool, Wave), and was real happy with them, but just wanted a change and found the Powerlock to fill my needs with ease. BTW, I do still have my old SuperTool as a backup in the family car. Gerbers don't appeal to me because of their opening method.
Of course, everyone has their own opinion as far as the BEST multitool, but for me, I've found that the TiNi Powerlock is IT. ;)

IF you want THE best, get the SOG PowerLock. If you want the best, and coolest, get the SOG TiNi PowerLock. If you need something alittle smaller and lighter than the PowerLock (it's a "heavy-duty" multi-tool), get yourself a SOG Deluxe Pocket PocketPlier.

Thanks alot everyone, you guys really helped me out on deciding
what multi-tool i should get. I decided im going with the tini powerlock:D I am going to order one tonight. It looks perfect for what i need it for + some. I am also going to buy the Gerber 800 Legend. I think i have seen them at sears, so im gonna take a trip down there tomarrow.
Since i will have 2 multi-tools i can figure out which is better, then give the one i dont care for to my little bro for x-mas! Maybe he'll stay out of my MT auto's now! errr, definately not, but worth a try. :) Thanks again guys! i appreciate the help.

You wont be dissapointed with the Powerlock. I carry a black-oxide coated EOD Powerlock with my own special blend of tools. I have been carrying a SOG multi-tool practically everyday since I was 14. I have converted many a Leatherman/Gerber fan with fantastic displays of irresistable crushing force.

They last a loooooong time too. I gave my first one to my best friend about 7 years ago and he still carries it.

I also got the little SOG CrossGrips and Crosscuts to give away as X-mas presents this year...had to get one for myself too ;), they are shweet.

I agree...I also have a CrossCut, and I like it alot better than my Leatherman Micra, (although I did replace the toothpick with a flat phillips screwdriver, which I find more useful).

SOG PowerLock for me. It is the best of the bunch, and mine has held up great in the 18 months I've had it, and it gets used hard.

I carried a Gerber original MultiPlier for about 10 years, and it was a great tool. I originally replaced it with a Leatherman Wave, but it wasn't as heavy duty as I needed, and I ended up bending it using the pliers. Once I got it warranteed, it was traded off.

I would recommend the SOG as my first choice, and the Gerber 800 as my second, due to the indexable carbide wirecutters.

My third, and last choice would be the Leatherman Supertool 200, or even the original if you can find it. These tools are heavy duty, and will stand up to whatever you may dish out. The SOG has the edge in the pliers department, due to the compound leverage gearing.

Now, the ultimate would be a SOG PowerLock, with the indexable inserts! :D

I have both the SOG Powerlock and the Paratool.

The Paratool is much smaller and has the option of using the pliers at various angles to the handles. This feature has come in handy for me a few times. It's on my belt most of the time. It's a multitool that isn't too big. Highly reccomended.

The Powerlock is on my belt when helping out on the family farm on weekends and evenings. Big, strong and practical. My father-in-law keeps one on his belt 24/7 on the farm and uses it and abuses it daily. He needs reliable, solid tools and the Powerlock meets his standards, which is saying a lot. He's hard on tools and can fix anything. He fixes much of it with that Powerlock.

SOG also has excellent customer service and the blades and tools on both of these are replaceable.

Go with SOG and you will be happy.

I've answer a question concerning the Canadian pennies with my Powerlock and its wire cutters. The question was which pennies are fully copper and which pennies are aluminium with anodized copper.
Powerlock goes through them with ease using the wire cutters. Try that with a Leatherman or Gerber. It can be done, but probably a lot harder to do.

Calyth, my friend cut up about $20 worth of American pennies and quarters, that's really what made me want to buy my own. I've tried with a Gerber MP400, it only nicked the surface of the coin.

Nathan is quite right – there is no “one the best” multi-tool. All depends on your needs and preferences.
I have some, the most frequently used of them is SOG PowerLock. Justification: so-called multi-tool is basically the pliers with some additional tools. PowerLock has way the best pliers of all multi-tools I have and acceptably good the rest of tools.

I like my cheap wal-mart brand (FLW) multi-fishing-tool. It has everything I need and is suprisingly well-made for $12. It has a little spring in the pliers so it's extremely easy to to use one-handed..... way easier than the genuine leatherman($40-50+) I tried at sears. I use it everyday at work for 2 years and hasnt broke yet!
If it ever breaks, I don't care, I'll just spend another day's lunch money instead of a days wage, and I'm back in business. Way to go wally.
