A couple of months ago, Canadian Tire had a sale on the Leatherman Wave ($30 off) so I bought one. Took it home played with it for awhile and took it back. I just wasn't impressed with it. Two weeks ago I was at a local sporting goods store (Le Baron) and took a look at the Swiss Spirit. As soon as the salesclerk dropped it in my hand, I knew it was coming home. What a difference. I have used it quite a bit already (everyday at work) and I can't say enough good about it. The scissors could be a bit bigger, like they are on my Vic Ranger, but other than that, it's perfect. Some people don't like the serrated blade, and I don't normally, but since I always carry at least one other knife, the serrated blade actually isn't a problem. The other multi tool I like is the Swiss Tool X.

This is by no means a criticism of you who like the wave, it's only my personal preference.

I recently bought a Wave that ended up breaking on me. I was working on a tough, rusted screw and the screwdriver, flathead (not the interchanging one with the philips head) snapped. The first time a leatherman failed me in years. I now use a blast and like it better, but I have been trying to trade here on the forums for a new wave because I would still like to have one for my collection. I like the blast because I can use it at work and in the field. The Wave just didn't give me a lot to work with. There aren't as many tools in it. With the Blast and the bit kit I don't have to walk back to my tool room as much. I think what sold me on the wave was the one hand opening and the shape of the blade with its thickness.

I like the locks on the Blast and Wave, unlike the Kick that I used to use. The tools would fold on me from time to time.

That reminds me. I used a Gerber at one time too. Didn't like it. It wore out pretty quick. I'm waiting for Buck to come out with a decent multi-tool. I would certainly give them a try.

For just messing around I have my leatherman kick. Not a bad tool but when I am in need of a real tool I grab my powerlock.

I really like the PST and the new Wave. I have EDCd both at different times. Like many say, the PST has it hands down for it's size, but the Wave has much better tools and the one hand opening. I used the serrated blade on the wave for a prybar, scraper, type bar, and the one hand opening feature made this very easy.

I have been looking at the Swiss tools, but wonder how the tips of the tools compare. Are the screwdriver tips polished like the SAKs? Do they bite as well as the leatherman tools?

I am also looking hard at the knifeless fuse. It has the smaller size, along w/ scissors and a file, along w/ being tsa compliant. It seems like it would mate well w/ a knife.

The Leatherman Charge is nice because everything locks. I'm starting to like the Leatherman (not sure it's name) with the rubberized handle and the pruning shears. It's deisigned for hunting and has a tool for removing shotgun chokes, has a saw blade, but I don't care much for the serated blade.

I bought a LM supertool when they first came out and it's my go to around the house multi-tool now. I purchased a Vic. tool 3 or 4 years ago for my camping gear, it's a tank and very solid. I also have a LM PST original, like them all, but seldom ever use the knife blade on any of them because I always have a knife handy. I really like the one handed open feature on the LM waves and variations of it though.

Anybody ever use SOG? How do you like them?

I have a SOG powerlock and it goes everywhere I go. I can't say enough about it. I just ordered a new straight blade to replace the combo edge and it is even better now. I also went ahead and replaced the saw with the sheepsfoot fully serrated blade. The saw is nice but since I carry a Vic farmer its not nessisary. I am hoping the wife will let me purchase the newer version with gear covers and an assisted opening main blade. I just hope it is still tough as nails like this one. I am thinking about going with the subdued version. The factory leather belt case is also top notch and well designed. When I am in civvies I use the leather case but in uniform I use a spec-ops brand sheath so I can adapt it back and forth between my OTV and my belt.

I have a leatherman wave that I switch between a SAK camper. Both are great and I find very useful in the field. Sometime the LM is all I take with me on hikes and overnights.

I just got a TTi and its great. I had some concerns over the complaints about the stiffness of the tools but after 3 days of use its silky smooth. I like the blade profile more without the swedge as on the Wave because I often push the top of the blade near the tip when whittling.
The saw and file are also thinner than on the Wave, but only by a hair. But this has no effect to the strength as far as i can tell - no bending or anything
However my one gripe is the overal fit and finish, everything works fine but just the little things make it less perfect. Like how the file just nicks the scales when closing and how part of the scales near the top are a hair off the body (not tightened 100%)
Its also slightly thicker which gives it a more filling feel, and the rounded Ti handles are just awesome.

i'm gonna chime in with a pretty crummy answer.

the cheapest thing that works. before my gerber mp400, i had a $10 "ohio forge" from home depot (china) that served me pretty well for about a decade. still fine, i just wanted more comfortable grips.

i'd be plenty happy with a lm kick, assuming it holds together.
