Best multitool w/ pliers and wiresnips? Bad exp. with leatherman.

For a high quality rust-free multi, you have to get one from Victorinox, either a Swisstool or a Spirit.

For serious wire cutting you need real cutters, either Klein or Knipex. No multi of any brand is in the same class.

I left my Leatherman Supertool on the railing of my treestand where it sat for a month and when I found it there wasn't one speck of rust on it.It had rained a lot in that time frame. I always liked the fact that when I got it gunked up from field dressing a deer I could just boil it in water and it would cook away any blood that was stuck in a hinge or crevice. I hate to send it in because it is so nice but the saw broke. I guess they will proably send me a Supertool 300 since mine is the original and discontinued.

Ask them to repair rather than replace, if possible. They just might have a saw or two in the parts bin yet.

my $0.02:

multi-tools are a "get out of jail card" kind of tool but they are not a replacement for a proper toobox. i have had no issues with the wire cutters on my Wave, despite abusing the hell out of 'em for 10 years.

however, if i know i'll be doing a lot of wire cutting, i'll pack my dedicated Knipex cutters.

Gentlemen,
In a perfect world all things work - but alas, I've owned and used one of those old Gerber "multi-pliers" - bead blasted with black finish and fuse crimping notch- and yes the wire cutter did also nick cutting of all things WIRE! -but I still love the one handed operation and edge retention of the blades - like I said - it is OLD! I also own and use regularly an OLD Leatherman PST - loose as a goose and also nicked in the wirecutter slot - I got it from a guy who worked for the TSA (I wonder how he got it?) I wont give that one up either! I made my own modifications to a Leatherman Micra -before the Squirt's and smaller versions came out by filing off the sissor to make it a pliers - That lives in my pocket... my Dad advised - use the right tool - like an adjustable wrench - even a Cresent or a Snap-on or anyone else's - it fits everything .... poorly! Sometimes when the occasion arises and need presents itself - you've got to use what you have on hand and just suck it up and move on if the tool is less than the ideal. It is not an ideal world- And my next tool will probably be one of the Leatherman skeletools with pocket clip!
Peace and keep it sharp!

The reason why your Leatherman wire cutters got so messed up is because your not using the hard wire cutters while cutting harder wire. The hard wire cutter actually breaks the wire instead of cutting it.
