Best Necker

If size and weight are a concern then Izula. If not, then the Izula-II or HEST. I owned an Izula but the handle was too short for me. I now love my HEST, though it's pocket carried.

Did someone just recommend a $400 necker in a thread on $40 neckers? :D

You won't go wrong with a Becker Necker, EsKabar, or ESEE Izula. The Izula II is more of a small belt knife IMO because of the longer handles and scales, but YMMV.

Umm, you are assuming the lower priced knives are MORE durable? This makes no sense.
I'm wondering where the durability issues come into play at all with 1095 vs 1095CV in a skeletonized small knife. There's zero 'magic' in heat treatment, no highly differentiated alloys, no hidden stress risers in the design, no heavy chopping tasks, etc.

Since both blade shapes come with the same handle shape, seems the small weight/dimension differences, plus the coating and sheath qualities would be the major differences in the products themselves.

Izula hands down imo. I used the stock sheath for awhile, then had a kydex one made up w/ the clip removed it lays very flat & is the best necker I've ever owned.

cold steel spikes, you can get 2 for around $40.............

I received a Cold Steel Spike as a stocking stuffer many Christmases ago from a family member. I keep it in the bottom of my shaving kit in my travel bag because it's long and slender and fits in a pocket that nothing else can. I use it maybe TWICE a year.

What is it designed for? It's long and slender. It can't slice anything. It does do anything well. It might stab, but there's hardly any handle to hold on to, so you would probably end up cutting yourself too, in a self defense situation. It's also around 8" long, so it is incredibly long around your neck and comes with a long chain that leaves it hanging WAY past the bottom of your shirt. It's one of the poorer neck knife designs out there. If you were dead set on a Cold Steel necker, the Beavertail Mini Tac is one that I would be interested in.

Sure, you can get one for $20, but for $34 shipped you can get a Becker, and for $45 shipped you can get an Izula, which will both perform better under any circumstance. I would much rather spend the extra money for something that I would use and carry.

I am not meaning to sound snide, but I have a Spike and haven't had the greatest experience with it. It pales in comparison to the Necker and the Izula.

Have a great 2011, and take care.

KATN,

Wade
