Best of 2018

image.jpg Was praying that 2018 would be the year of the Paysan, but Spyderco let me down with that one. Bought about 10 others that didn’t make the cut. Of the ones I kept, I would say my favorites are these.

If I had to keep one and only one, it would be the ZT 456 probably. That surprizes me big time. The CF version just made the knife perfect for me. As a matter of fact I am gonna buy a second one while they are still available.

My runner-up. Hard to believe that it would be a runner-up to anything I got in 2018 but, my first CRK has offered very little in the way of surprises. It simply is the finest knife I have ever owned, bar none.

I only got two knives this year in 2018,

Benchmade 556 Mini Griptilian
Benchmade 940-2

Gotta go to the 940-2. I only had it a week before 2019 but I knew... I just knew

It was a busy year for me, but I found one that easily stands out. This has become a true EDC for me, became the first knife I have ever bought two of, and lit a fire under me to finally start on YouTube, as my first review.

Massdrop x Laconico Keen.

So damn good.
Simplicity usually is the best.

In a year where I turned over my entire core collection, a year full of knives I absolutely love, my favorite was the Microtech Socom Elite.

This is probably the knife I'd carry everywhere except the woods if it were legal for me to do so. I didn't know what to expect from it, but it's been outstanding and I love it.

Too dark for a current photo, but it's got a bit more mileage on it now. That coating is tough, though!

I didn't buy many knives this year and have been really pairing down my collection into less a collection and more a minimalist set of knives to suit my daily needs.

That being said, I did finally get my hands on the Spyderco Native 5 Salt. Got it in December so just made it into the "Best of 2018" category. I've been really looking forward to getting one since they were announced!

From my perspective, 2018 was the year of WE Knives. They produced some killer MassDrop collabs, some thin stock framelocks and the Civivi line which upended the value category.
I bought the Wisp, Practic and Coarser. They are all exceptional.
