In the Busse FFBM Destruction test

At 1 hour and 23 minutes Noss cuts through a pretty thick piece of pipe. Gauge/Steel? At that point Noss screams

"Look at the edge... we haven't even torn it out or dented it right here... at all." "weew ya! absolutely awesome! fantastic!..That is bloody tough man. Can't say the same thing for my hand. Look at the edge.. We haven't torn it out or anything. It's hardly even dented. INFI is absolutely crazy stuff."

Apparently the scrap yard scrapper 6 had major chipping/tearing and failed to cut all the way through the pipe during this test yet the Bussie didn't even lose it's edge. (see this video at scrapper at 1 hour 6 minutes vs Busse at 1 hour 23 minutes)

Noss has a lot of video and I won't be able to watch them all. Are there any other highlights I should look for? It's not nearly as scientific as ANSI testing but it's still pretty cool to see the differences. It looks to me like there is a much bigger difference between SR101 and INFI than I would of thought.

I thought those videos were gone?

From what I remember Machetes also faired pretty well, and they're cheap.

A lot of videos? He only has 14 uploads...besides, if you're actually using your knives for the work they are made to do those vids are absolutely pointless. Nobody cuts pipe with a knife, nobody.

LOL !! You focus on one part of a 2 hour long destruction test. I cut, chop baton, tip test, lateral strength test, chipping test on wood concrete and metal and so forth on but you focus on the last part only. You people are always good for a laugh. :D There were over 50 tests originally on the old noss4 you tube account. I haven't had the chance yet to upload them all to the new account since they did away with the 10 minute upload limit. I will in time though.

Later.

You need to check this out:

Hey man--just wondering--have you ever thought of testing an Imacasa machete? Might be cool to see how it stacks up under your regimen. :)

Noss's tests have a lot of value in that they show how tough some of the knives really can be, also how the different steels and knives react to extreme use.

Interesting battery of tests in all, that's having watched all of the videos.

All in all a lot of work.

Why would they be gone?

He used to have a website with all of his videos on it, then one day it all disappeared. Later a few videos started showing up on youtube.

I remember watching his videos of some fancy expensive survival knife and it broke in half right away. It would be a serious bummer if you were in a situation where you needed to rely on your knife and it broke in half.

If you want to check one out that I like try to find the one were he tests out a ESEE 4. Then try to say 1095 is a bad steel. Just proves it really is all about the heat treat.

He did break a CRK Green Beret. That ruffled quite a few feathers. Though he wasn't the only one to do that, Cliff Stamp also did a test of the same knife with a similar outcome.

That was an RC-4 (RAT) and it snapped in the weight test if I remember correctly.

Good to know. Give me a holler if you come out of "retirement." :)

I believe the Cold Steel GI tanto has had the best price/strength ratio of all knives tested.

I was just curious about something. What kind of work do you do, that you can afford to buy these knives that you end up breaking:confused:. I know some are donated, but you buy the rest.

It has been a good while since I have seen that video but I do believe it snapped at that point, but the ESEE and the RAT models are exactly the same both made by Rowen just a different logo is about the only difference in the two.

Btw I do thank both you and Noss for the tests you guys do. Gives us knife nuts alot of info on both real world cutting (you tests) and how a knife deals with extreme use (the Noss tests).

Noss did also say over on his own site that his first choice in a hard use knife would be a Busse then would be a ESEE. Which I do think that speaks volumes to ESEE given he has beat on just about everything and for a 1095 to hold its own to the point where he would take it over anything short of a Busse (kin) is pretty impressive in my eyes.

I have watched all of Noss's video's when they were back on his site. I have reviewed a few on Youtube, now that he has them uploaded.

I would have liked to see the 3v Keffler in a more reasonable thickness. .5 inch is pretty darned thick.

even my old .32 were overkill in Infi.
