I am looking for edc and outdoor folder witch will mostly be used for carving tent pegs and general work and will be sometimes used as edc folder (but it don`t need to be ultralight or very small). And max blade length is 4 inches (it should be around griptilian`s blade length)

And max price is 170$

The Military works well for all outdoor chores except battoning (I've seen people do it, but I don't do it with mine)

The Svord Peasant has been my all around go to camp folder for a few reasons.

1. Price, I won't worry about abusing it.
2. Ease of use and cleaning is simple.
3. Steel is really decent and stays sharp for a while.

Take a look at the Spyderco Grayle Bradley or the ZT 0550...both great EDC's and both tough as nails for carving.

A lot of people said that ZT0550 creates hotspots on hand when carving and that it has too thick blade for carving (and that replacement scale helps)

What about comparing Military, ZT0550, gayle bradley and ritter griptilian at carving and general outdoor use?

Benchmade Mini Bone Collectors (2.9"), also available in larger, 3.5" versions. Great ergos, great flat-ground D2. Has worked very well for me with carving.

What about military (yes i know its 4 inches)

This. The reason:

It's designed to be used with gloves.
It has a great geometry for taking a lot of wood off with the chest lever grip(tent pegs) and makes great fuzzies(fire starting).

The military is what I carry(plus a SAK) when I don't carry a fixed blade.

Of course, with enough skill any knife will work. ;)

ZT0550 for carving?

And have you ever tried spyderco military for carving.
I guess it all depends on your grip and your carving. I've used mine pretty extensively for carving. Given, the blade's a bit thick for intricate stuff but most of my folders are. The spyderco bushcraft is a GREAT carver but it's even heftier then the 550; again, depends on what "carving" you're doing I guess. the 0550 works good for me...

The Gayle Bradley is my "folding bushcraft" knife but the 0550 works pretty dang good too. I sold my grip a while back. It was a great knife but I think the GB and 0550 are better suited to heavy carving. The grip might fare better for intricate stuff. I don't have the military but the para would work great too....

I will be doing heavy duty carving of soft to medium hard wood (NO hardwoods).

You don't specify locking or not. If it doesn't need to lock, How about a traditional from GEC or Case or Canal Street Cutlery? I just ordered a GEC #55 and I'll be using it to do all of my folding knife carving/EDC needs.

I have a Manix 2 DLC Combo Edge that I use for the same double duty at times... The ergos are very comfortable with plenty of jimping all around... The hollow grind on the blade provides some extra strength (IMO) for heavier abuse than the FFG blade... The S30v steel holds a great edge for a long time... The texture of the G10 scales provides a good comfortable grip even when wet... I have been using it with a sheath lately and this serves me well outdoors and adds some pocket real estate...

What is "heavy duty carving"?????

I suggest a Vic Farmer if its going to be used mainly outdoors....Vic Tinker or SuperTinker for all-around city/outdoors use.

I think an Opinel #7 or #8 would be perfect. I've yet to find a better wood working folder.

get Spyderco Paramillitary II, its a great camping knife. excelent for both carving and slicing. when I go camping I use it for many kitchen related takes as well as.
