Hey guys today I have an important question. I love overbuilt knives like Hinderers and Striders but don't have enough cash for another one. Ill post specs but in your mind let me know what the best over built folder is
Cant be because I already have
Delica
Para 2

Blade no bigger than 4" and has to have good steel
Can't weigh more than 5oz
Cant cost more than $240
If you have any knife that's in those specs and is hard use let me know

The closest thing I can find is the Zero Tolerance 0560, which comes in at 5.8oz. You can get them from KershawGuy (his Bladeforums profile here) for $215 I think; just send him an email/message and ask him what his price on the ZT 0560/0561 is. It's designed by Rick Hinderer and produced by Kershaw.

If you want a smaller knife, take a look at the Benchmade 755 MPR. It weighs 5.5oz though. Premium steel, a titanium lock bar, and a very thick blade.

What makes choosing the knife hard, is the weight limit you have set. Most knives that are overbuilt usually have heavy weight to them; like the Benchmade 275 Adamas and the Zero Tolerance 0301.

Boker Pipsqueak s35vn overall length is only 6.25 inches with blade being 2.62 inches but man is this thing a total beast and you get a surprisingly full grip. Also has titanium handles and a green micarta scale. Comes in at 5.1 ounces and pretty easy to find for about $200 on most majors sites

Spyderco Techno? It meets your requirements but ir is a smaller knife. ~$170

Titanium framelock. CTS-XHP blade steel.

Oh I like that techno.. Guys I would really prefer a knife under 5oz and I guess it can be hard use too. What are your thoughts on Houge knives??

You might have a tough time finding an overbuilt knife under 5oz. As the word seems to imply "heavy".

Personally, I would eat the extra 2oz. and get a ZT 0200 or Benchmade Adamas.

How about a Spyderco Manix 2 with S30V steel? I think that meets all of your needs. Good Luck! Kevin :D

I think this is an oxymoron. But the ZT350 is pretty solid. If you could up the weight the Spyderco Tuff is well, pretty tuff.

benchmade 810 contego thick slab of cpm-m4 steel its 5.8 ounces but its almost 4 inches long. If you want an over built knife under 5 ounces its going to have a short blade.

I vote zt0550, I love mine...best $20 I ever spent, hurray for yard sales maned by pissed off wives of knife nuts....

Well, I've had lots of ZT's and BM's but I can't second the reco on the 755. It has m390 blade-steel which is great, and it is smooth, but it's so darned thick in the handles, at 0.610" IIRC, and the clip rips your Levis. It is a Brick, Brick, Brick. Mine was a gift. It sits in a drawer. SAD.

If your looking at hogue look at the ex-01 its amazing I have the drop point 3.5" blade with aluminum handles. I cant say enough good things about it. It came crazy sharp, its probably the smoothest knife i have and the button has great lockup and its very easy to flip closed. The aluminum cersion is 4.6 ounces and the g10 is 4.3 ounces and the polymer version is 4.1. Oh and the handles ergos are unbelievably comfortable

how solid is the hogue any blade play even if you use a pretty decent amount of force not full strength but a fair amount my 810 is rock solid but the hogue looks interesting .

My hogue has no play in any direction and its still unbeliveably smooth you can watch allen elishewitz do stress tests of the knife on youtube it holds up very well

I personally don't own any Hogue knives, but I hear nothing but good things about them. Look up reviews on them on YouTube. I hear that they are very good quality and they are very underrated.

First thing that comes to mind when I think "overbuilt knife" is ZT. The 0300 and 0560 series are both very substantial knives at around that $240 mark. The 0560 is a bit over 5oz, and the 0300 is about 8oz. The 0350 and 0550 are also both tanks and well within your budget. They're also both a little over 5oz.

The Spyderco Superleaf is also a pretty beefy knife, sporting 4mm thick blade stock. It is comparable in size to a ZT 0550 and weighs in just under 5oz. They're well under $240 as well. They're discontinued, but still not especially difficult to find in stock.
