I looked up some local shops and the closest one I could find online was still 3 hours away. Theres probably a few places closer that do it I just don't know how to find them. Anyways, I would rather go a route where people no they do great work, and thats why I came here to ask. Is there a certain shop out there that does good work at a decent price? I'm going to have roughly 8 or 9 blanks to send out within the next few weeks, (after I get my material) so I figured that would be a good amount for a starting batch.

Peter's. Great work every time. Price varies on amount of blades done.

You haven't mentioned which steel

You haven't 'mentioned where you are.
If you want info on local sources, that's important.
Put it in your profile.

Well i dont mean just local. I wanted anyplace that does it well at a decent price. I live in Upper Michigan. And im starting out with the majority being 1084, and a few of CPM154

I'm in west Michigan(GRand Rapids). The 1084 you can do yourself cheaply but the other should be sent out to Peters, Texas Knife Supply, or check out Buck Knives web site. Depending on where your at I have everything set to do 1084 if you want to make a road trip.

Just curious, if I were to pay shipping both ways, what would you charge to do (6) 8" blanks of 1084?

No I was offering to let you come use my stuff. Or if your not to far I could bring the stuff to you and show you what you need and teach you hands on. I could do it but you'd be better off looking up Darrin Sanders on the site here if your going to pay someone. He's very reasonable.

Ah I see. Well thanks so much for the offer. Don't think I'll be down there anytime soon but, I don't know if I want to get into my own heat treating quite yet. I'm sure later on I may contemplate but, I think I just want the professionals to take care of it for me as of now.

just for my 2 cents, heat treating 1084 is pretty easy with a two brick forge and propane torch. Plus you get the satisfaction of doing the whole thing soup to nuts yourself. Just something to think about.
