I going to break down and buy a Cold Steel tomahawk to modify. Probably the Trail Hawk first. Where is the cheapest or best place to get one. There seems to be a wide range of prices, but cheapest doesn't alway mean best service. Any advice would be appreciated. I promise to post pics after modifications.

Forgot to ask...which would you prefer the Trail Hawk or the Frontiersman for the first one?

Ps. Thanks for the links.

FWIW
I bought a Rifleman's Hawk and wish it was lighter.I would get the Trail Hawk if I could do it over.

If you don't foresee needing any type of hammer, get the Frontier Hawk.

Nothing wrong with the Rifleman though, just a little bit heavier than I expected...

Yes, the riflemans hawk was alot havier than I thought aswell, though it was still a good weight for me. When I wanted something lighter, but that shape I went for the trailhawk.

I was actually debating between the Trail Hawk and the Frontiersman. They're about the same weight aren't they.

Trail Hawk is great. The only disadvantage I think is that the handle is a little loose, but that can be easily remedied.

yea, i've just noticed that. i've never bought a cold steel piece from any other site so i didnt know before =P strange that they should sell their own knives for so high...

edit: well, not just their knives... their stuff

I'm using the CS Trailhawk quite a it right now. I took out the set screw that does no good anyway and can break it down and put it in my pack. Makes a heck of a camp tool.

I got mine from eknifeworks.com,(smokey mountain knifeworks) it takes a couple weeks for delivery, when did the trailhawk start getting a set screw? Mine must be an early model it does not have one

Cold Steel, and most manufacturer/sources, tend to sell their product at RETAIL so they don't compete with their distributors and retailers. Selling to the middle man is where they make their money in large quantity sales, not to the individual buyer. Hence, why CS is so 'high.'
